Is there anyone in this forum filing the 601 in Costa Rica? I am in Costa Rica and sometimes I wonder how this process goes for people here .

I'm not to sure about the 601 for costa rica, because we did the 601a. I do know a few people who did the 601 in costa rica. As far as when you will get your receipt could be anytime or another 2 weeks. You can always call to ask how long it may take. It does take time though so be patient. As for the 601 it's self can take up to 9 months to finish give or take for costa rica.

yesterday I found out through an inquiry with our Senator's office, that our expedite request was approved on October 15th. 2 weeks ago.
I am beyond happy and super relieved. The Senators office said the USCIS is working with the consulate in Costa Rica at the moment. I don't know how long they take to get expedited waivers approved... but right now I am thanking God for this news. We didn't win the war yet but at least we won a small battle

Did your husband leave on his own or was there a voluntary departure order or deportation? And did he enter the US legally with a visa?

I may send a request to expedite but I can't do it if I don't have a receipt number, right?

EWI and VD ? My husband just came to the US on a B2 visa and overstayed the 6 months they gave him when he entered. He left on his own because his father was ill and needed surgery.
Our expedite reason is due to SEVERE financial issues for me here in the US. I don't know if an expedite can be requested if you are with your husband in Costa Rica with your children. You can try though. Our lawyer did ours on the cover page of the waiver when it was first sent and he called it in a week after it was received. USCIS told them it was denied ( at least that is what the lawyer told me) but a few weeks later the USCIS sent a letter asking us to submit the request in writing with the evidence of the hardship. So I wrote a page explanation in my words what is going on and I sent 2 more pieces of evidence. There was tons of evidence in the original waiver package with the original expedite request. I didn't even know it was approved until I asked the Senator's office to make an inquiry on Oct 28th. They came back to us a day later saying it was approved on October 15th and if we don't hear something within 30 days to call them back for another update. Its been a month since it was approved so we are hoping the approval will be anytime now.
