    buying a fridge

Any dos or don'ts when buying a fridge? Bad or good experiences with certain brands or styles?

We are buying a fridge for our house. We want something for around 1000 or under. The one we have our eye on is an LG (is this a good brand?) and has the freezer on the bottom and fridge on top. We're either going with black or stainless steel I think. People with stainless steel fridges- do the fingerprints annoy you or is it easy to clean? Mostly I just want something that will work well for a long time and keep the food cold! However, I don't know if there are any little things I'm forgetting to consider.

I have a hard time making up my mind on such expensive purchases.

Haha I am the worst person to ask.... but I got our fridge used from downtown Juarez for $70 and I love it! I guess I'm not very picky though? Haha

Emi, I'm coming to Juarez and we're going fridge shopping. $70, wow! Seriously, I think the price on some of these household things here is crazy. Like the mattress we just got was the cheapest one that my husband (who is a big guy) wouldn't break in a day, and I won't even tell you how much that was! And it's not even that comfy. I was going to get a used one, but then my dad got me paranoid talking about bed bugs, and I never should have listened.

Well I am a pest professional (literally licensed in 3 states) and I would not buy a used matteress. That's my take on that. Beg bugs are currently a HUGE epidemic. Anyway, my fridge is a Kenmore. It's several years old (at the least) and still holding up. Perfectly.

Honestly, spend the money. Bed bugs aren't a public health pest or anything, ie you aren't going to get a communicable disease from them like a lot of people think, but they are a pain in the ass and very difficult to get rid of. That being said, if you do go with a used mattress, you will be able to inspect them and physically see if there are any bed bugs. Pay special attention to the corners.

We have an LG I bought about 4 years ago. Same as your considering, freezer on bottom, fridge on top. Stainless steel. Love, love, love it. The fridge doors are too high for Bailey to open, and the freezer is too heavy. The stainless steel is great; it does get some prints on it, but I wipe it down at night when I do the counters, damp paper towel does the trick. Occassionally, I give the entire exterior a good shine with a soft cloth, but I'm too lazy to do it that often.....

The bed bugs - nasty creatures. My neighbor got them in her clothing from a dodgey hotel, and it took her 5 months to get rid of. Ate up the kids - they had bite marks all over their legs. No disease or anything, but a pain in the ass. I think she had to have someone come in and literally steam her whole house....

We decided on the LG fridge on top, freezer on bottom (less bending over to load groceries and hubby is tall) in black. Next week it goes on sale at home depot. One more thing accomplished, and 3 weeks until we move.

Wendy I have the LG french door freezer on bottom and I would NEVER go back! I LOVE my fridge! All my my hubbys family want one now because it's just so much easier on your back. The dog has us trained that if we open the freezer he has to get an ice cube since they are at nose level LOL. You will love your fridge.
