Greetings from New England- Seeking Current Timeline Info.

    Hi All:

I (US citizen) am currently dating someone in the UK- we've only been dating a couple months but so far so good/

There is a chance we may get engaged in the next year. I have done a bit of reading up on the process but am curious how long it takes one to complete the petition paperwork? Also, what are the processing times?

Do I also understand correctly that once the petition is approved a packet then gets sent to the alien fiance/fiancee and there is a further wait?

I am just trying to figure out after we were to get enagaged roughly how long before he may receive the visa to join me here in the US.

Also, once here on the K-1 visa, how long before he can work here?

    Any help will be appreciated

These are very good questions. If your future fiance has no criminal violations nor US immigration violations, his is a pretty simple case, and would most likely look like most of the fiance cases on VisaJourney. They have very detailed timelines and extensive per-country resources there. You are correct that after the petition is approved, your fiance would be sent a packet with instructions on documents and forms that would be needed at his immigration interview, which would take place up to a few months after the petition approval. The specifics of timelines right now through London would best be found on Visajourney. Once he receives the visa, he must enter the US (I believe within 6 months of visa issuance), marry you within 90 days of his entrance, and then file the Adjustment of Status packet based on the marriage. The Employment Authorization Document (EAD) does not arrive until after the Adjustment of Status packet has been filed, so depending on how long between visa issuance and AOS filing, it could be quite a while before he gets the Employment Authorization.

Good luck and I hope you can find the answers you need!

Yes, if we were to get engaged and go through this process his case would be straightforward (simple case).

Do you happen to know if there is a thread on here associated with the medical exam? He has chrons disease (although never had surgery for it and has had no problems for several years or more), but I wasn't sure if that would be an issue.

Also, I am now wondering if the timeline is faster if I were to bring him over here after we were married vserus via a K-1???
