I had my gall bladder out, and felt like a new person afterwards. I hope they do the laparoscopy (3 small incisions) on you, though, because the recovery period is much shorter. But, if they don't, rest assured that it had been done that way for decades, and it is a straightforward procedure. It's just that you will probably endure more pain afterwards until the scar heals.... I think weeks rather than days. I'm not saying this to scare you, rather to help you mentally prepare. It sounds like you have a very supportive husband, and that will help you a lot. Try not to worry because it will only make it harder. Surgery sounds scary (and I was really scared the first time), but truly it is quite routine - even in Mexico - and you will be fine. I will pray for your speedy recovery! All the best.
    Timeline:
March 2000 - husband EWI from Mexico
    2004 - met husband, 2010 - got married
    Nov 2010 - consulted 2 attorneys, joined I2Us
Dec 2010 - requested FBI fingerprint and FOIA check
Mar 2011 - received FBI fingerprint check response - no record
    Mar 19, 2012 - sent in I-130, April 1 - resent I-130 (with check this time)
    Apr 9, 2012 - NOA1, July 9, 2012 - NOA2
    Aug 8, 2012 - Received NVC notification
    Nov 14, 2012 thru Mar 5, 2013 - paid IV and AOS fees, filed DS-260, I-864
    Mar 5, 2013 - mailed (overnight) I601A, Mar 11, 2013 - NOA
Mar 25, 2013 - NVC notification, waiting for I601A to schedule interview
    May 22, 2013 - I601A approved!

Thank you all for the prayers but it looks like we have to put things on hold We got up really early this morning then sat at the hospital for hours just to have the doctor tell us they don't do surgeries at this hospital, that we have to go to another town, needless to say i was irritated we were going to have to go wait in line at another one then he informs us that they give out passes at this hospital to go to the other, good news no long waiting, but of course life is never that easy so he then proceeds to say they don't give out the passes or do the surgery unless i am in extreme pain, which i was not this morning. So now we have to wait until it is hurting again . I am getting so frustrated i just want this over with, i finally decide i will go ahead and have it done here just to wait for hours and be told sorry you need to be practically dyeing before we will see you WTH! I am pretty frustrated right now and have no idea what i am going to do, i guess we will wait till it hurts. I am going to have my mom call my doc. at home and talk to him about how serious it all is and if he thinks i need it right away because if so then i will do my best to pretend like i am in extreme pain even though i am not a great actress or lier i will do my best if i have to.

It is a pretty straight forward surgery, I infact had mine taken out last year after enduring the most gosh awful pain in the world and it just comes all of a sudden, I was standing there washing dishes and then WHAM SEVERE pain. You will feel much better. They made the incisions right under my lap band incisions not painful at all or at least not very painful you can do it! GOODLUCK!
