Suggestions for family portrait?? Outfits??

our appointment is 4 days before CHristmas... sooo not much time to get an outfit......


ok i like the red one of course... and the black and white damask one... definitely going to use the two of those... i like the outside one snow on trees- but thats a backup in case we take a change of clothes... we go to JCPenney - soooo its not like we have all day to be changing outfits....

i know there's some creative people out there - so any ideas on outfits? I was contemplating buying a dress (to go with the new black shoes i just got)... Saw a couple at White House Black Market (OMG if i had money i'd buy one of everything there - totally my style - and NEVER been in there before - baaaad idea to go today!!!) Both were that satiny material.... both strapless... and above the knee... and fitted.... Ok so my choices were all black with some rinestones at the top and at the top in the back... or a black one with a big red rose print....

maybe with a bolero? Satin or faux fur? or maybe a red pencil skirt with some type of black corset style top? with the bolero? aaaaaahhhhhhhhh



ok here's the rose dress... hidden but there it is... so black one is similar but rinestones at the top........

ok can you tell i'm back to filling the time with fluff..... two weeks two weeks... but seriously... i want a totally killer outfit for some killer pics... sooo i need ideas for him too... black jeans? or black slacks??? i'm not the kind to prefer the stereotypical poses for pictures... i always tell the photographer " i dont want what you always do - do something different"..... soooo kind of like the thread cupcake posted on family portraits... the pic in her link - the guy had jeans and an open jacket... but since i'm getting fancy with my outfit - how fancy does he have to be for the pictures to look good? Would black jeans be ok?

orrrrrrrrr this outfit ROCKS with one of the boleros.......... aaaah decisions........


ok since i'm not a photographer......... what is the mostly black dress going to do in front of the black and white damask print? since its only half black background - i should fade into it right?

Love the vintage black/white. But, I would stay away from all black, all white, or black/white clothing. Red and black would look fabulous, and the red would really pop. You in the black & red rose dress, the baby in a "traditional" red Christmas dress, hubby in black slacks & red button down. Or, you could go more casual, you and hubby in jeans (even black jeans) and casual red sweaters, baby girl in more casual red/black one piece pants/jumper thing. That background could really go either way. If you can pull it off, a smokey purple would look great (I know your coloring, you would look great it smokey purple, so would your husband!) instead of red.

I didn't know JCP had such cool backgrounds! But, I'm not a fan of the two snow scenes. My opinion, but they look contrived...

ok the two options are this..... went shopping....... LOL


black satin long sleeved bolero jacket thing, fushia ruffle shirt (though not as fushia bright pink in person - toned down - pic is awful bright), and black satin pencil skirt

OR the dress with the bolero.........

i guess the first option so i have color in front of the damask background... obviously the red background it out now...

hmmmm ok so hubby in blaack shoes, black jeans (??) a white (???) shirt and what color jacket (not buttoned... but leave it open...)??

Would he wear a royal blue shirt? That would go really nice with the pink ruffly shirt. Then a black jacket.... If it's a white shirt, I'd stick with a black jacket. But, I'd go with hubs in black slacks to go with the more formal "mood" of your outfit. Unless you're purposely mixing up styles, which can also be nice. But, with the background and your outfit, you could easily make this a more formal picture if he's not in jeans.

Ooooh roayl blue......rockin idea....ok so if I go formal for him (tho jacket will still be open) we could do an informal pose? I'm way against this looking like prom with a baby gone bad...lol....or if he does royal blue shirt w jeans and black shoes n black jacket...black jeans or dark dark blue ones? I'm just anti stereotypical posed pics....sooooo that's where my dillemas lie...lol

I think the fuchsia is a good idea. Or even something in the "gem tones" idea on the brighter side of the color spectrum (or even a light gray as long as it has a lot of texture and doesn't wash you out too much) would look nice with the black and white background. What I mean by the "brighter side" is stay away from dark colors like royal blue, dark purple, forest green, etc.

If the pictures will be from the waist up, the bottoms won't matter as much, but if it is going to be full body, I would look for a bright colored dress. No black or white. JMO of course!

I'm at a loss for pose ideas....didn't even think of that! Are the pcitures gonna be waist up or full body? I dunno....maybe some of each to cover it all! In case one is way worse than the other...heehhehe

I like this idea. I also like the dress with the bolero, but it might be too dark.

I'm having the same problem! I have the dresses for the girls (maroon) and now I need something for the adults to wear.

anasmom no worries - thread jack away! Tooooo cute! It depends on how 'matchy' u want to get... I think a bright royal blue/turquoise (not a bright one but a subdued kind of one)or if u r really wanting Chriiiiiistmas - an emerald green.... would be good for shirt...what types of clothes u guys gonna wear? Hubby in slacks? Jacket or no? Isn't that a brown band around the waist of their dress? A pretty brown would be cool...with the splotchy (whatever u call it) brown background? Because isn't the brown background 'lighter'? Orrrrr pick one of the other colors in that band - the flower looks like a deep goldish brown kind of color...that would flow in the picture and look really good (matching one of the minor colors in the dress band) without it being super obvious..... or if the brown background is too dark then a nice tan kahki colored shirt...or kahki pants with a white shirt and jacket of some color...black? Just some ideas.... lol I try to follow the color wheel at times - but then again I like to go against the grain at times! Haha
