    Family Portraits

We're doing holiday studio family portraits(9 adults). We decided to go with a coordinated color scheme of black and red. Then I figured that'd look too dark so we decided to throw in some white.

You'd think these are the most commercial pictures and I'd be able to pull up samples by Google search but its harder than it sounds.

My dilemma is doing all black and red clothing and a white background or black, white, red clothing variations with a gray/black background. I kind of dont want the black background since it might blend in with the clothes and not give much definition - not the case??

    Any suggestions? Ideas? Experience?

Mmmmmm....only a suggestion...but u answered ur own question....dark clothes and black background wouldn't make u guys 'pop' if that's what u r looking for....white would be a loooot of contrast.... what about some kind of amber gold like background? If u guys wear warm reds and not blue reds....the golden amber background should help u pop but blend nicely with the (warm) reds...maybe? Hehe...just a thought...nothing professional....

I have found that I like the mottled gray background the best. In real life it doesn't look that great, but it looks great in the photos. It will contrast well with black, white, and red. It's also softer than white. I like the idea of wearing red, but it might be difficult to match the reds. Good luck! We need to get ours done soon!

thanks for that anasmom... that's the exact reason i was "against" that - it looks horrrrrrible in real life.. and they never have solid gray... so it looks good in pics??? i think the family pic we had taken years ago was maybe the blue splotchy one... i dont remember.... hmmmm will have to rethink the gray splotchy one when we go...

I like the pop of the white background and I like the gray. So I'm torn on what to tell the men to wear...white shirts or black shirts.

I'm wondering if it will be the same problem with white on white lol
