    Talking Mr. Anja's citizenship interview

    Hello everyone!

So Mr. Anja had his citizenship interview on the 25th of August. It went well, much quicker than we had expected (all of 30 minutes)! He said they were very nice and polite to him.

The interview began with the personal questions. One thing that surprised us was that they revisited issues that were addressed when he went for his residency interviews. (He EWId in 2000, we went to CDJ in 2007 to get his permanent residency and we had to turn in a waiver). The immigration officer had our actual waiver packet on his desk. He asked Mr. Anja how he came to the country, if he had ever claimed to be a US citizen, etc. He also asked him questions from the waiver. He looked through it and asked if I still had my medical issues. The officer also asked questions about the entire immigration process and seemed surprised that it has taken us this long to get to this point... So if you went through the waiver process, be prepared for that to come up.

He asked some questions about our relationship (when is our anniversary, for example) and then he really probed into why we don't have children. It wasn't enough for Mr. Anja to say that we can't have children, but the officer wanted to know the specific medical conditions, what we have tried, and what our future plans are. So be prepared for some very personal questions, just in case they come up!

Then the officer proceeded to the civics and language portion of the interview. This went exactly as expected. The 10 civics questions came directly from the questions that USCIS provides. Then Mr. Anja read a statement "Which state has the most population" and the officer told him to write "California has the most population."

The officer had Mr. Anja sign a form and then congratulated him! He got a letter in the mail on Sept 1st and the ceremony is set for the 16th of September!
