Here's my guide to Walgreens shopping:
You can see the walgreens weekly sale ad at www.walgreens.com
You can use instant coupons from the Walgreens Easysaver book along with manufacturer coupons to save even more money!
Walgreens also has store coupons out. There is a red pamphlet that you can get from the pharmacy that has $50 worth of coupons in it.
There is also a Walgreens activity book that has walgreens coupons in it on baby items. (Walgreen coupons can be doubled with easy saver and manufacturer coupons!!)
Some items or combination of items you buy from wags can get you a RR or register reward. (can be called catalina) Generally there are two kinds of catalinas that print: $$ off of a particulair item or $$ off of your next purchase. For example this week there is mouthwash on sale for $4.49, get a $4.49 RR for buying it.
There are a few rules to follow when using RR:
General rule is that you cannot use RR to purchase the same thing that you got the RR for and get more RR. In my example if I got $4.50 in RR from the mouthwash I cannot use that RR to buy more mouthwash and get another RR. Each RR has it's own rules on what can and can't be bought. Certain groups of food such as dairy cannot be purchased when using RR.
When using RR your total (before tax) must be above the amount of the RR. Also your total number of items must be higher than your total number of coupons. Here's my example:
I have my $4.50 RR. If I have a shampoo for $5 and another item for $1.49 and two coupons for $1 off than I would not be able to use my RR because the total is $4.49, 1 penny away and because I have two products and two coupons. In this case I would use a filler, or cheap item, to get me above the $4.50 and an item that does not have a coupon. For filler items, small candles work good, also small kleenex packages (walgreens brand is 29 cents for one package) or a clearance item. If I picked up one bag of 29 cent kleenexes than my total would be $4.78 - $4.50 RR = 28cents plus tax out of pocket!
Walgreens also has mail in rebates. It is very simple and they are pretty quick about getting the rebate back. Last month I bought a few of the free after rebate items. I did the claim online and it was very easy. I chose the gift card to receive my money so I got 10% more back. It took approximately three weeks for me to get my gift card, but now that I have my card I can just load the next months rebates onto the same card which mean less time!!!
