I remember reading something about that somewhere..I think it is when there is criminal history or other complicating factors...someone else will know for sure
Does anyone know what this means exactly? and how long it takes to recieve a A File? And what is a A File? This is the reply congress got back about my husbands Waiver. Thanks for any help.
The waiver is pending in Vienna . The information provided will be included in the workfolder.
The case is not ready for adjudication as the applicant’s A-file has not yet arrived.
Thanks

The A-File is the Alien File. It contains all and any information that the foreigner has regarding any times they have interacted with immigration.
You are given an A number the first time you come into contact with immigration/borders/POE etc. The alien file has information that you will have received copies of and also information that you do not know about.
The more interactions (times and places) that the alien has had with immigration the larger the file will be and the longer it will take to get to the desired location.
So it is essentially all of the information that the USCIS has on any foreigner that enters/tries to enter the US.
There is really no way to know how long it will take to gather all of this together.....
