For those who was wondering what happened to Silvio from the Sopranos, apparently he went into the witness protection program, and was relocated to Lillehammer, Norway. At least that is the premise for a new show starring Steven van Zandt. After a failed hit, Frank "the fixer" Tagliano decides to testify against his boss, and asks to be sent to Norway, because after watching the 94 Olympics on TV he believes the place is full of "clean air, fresh white snow and gorgeous broads". Of course he is in for a bit of a reality check after he gets there.....
After seeing the first 3 episodes, I have to say that the show has promise, and I like it. It's a drama with some light moments thrown in, sort of "The Sopranos meet Fargo" with a little "Northern Exposure" for good measure. The dialog is in english and norwegian, which isn't a problem for me since I am fluent in both languages - but there are subtitles on the norwegian parts for those watching it on Netflix here in the US. The show premiered in Norway on NRK January 25, on Netflix streaming February 6, and I believe BBC will be showing it in the UK.
The show is quirky, but has some decent acting. It also has many stereotypes - both norwegian and american - pegged, too. If you have Netflix, it's worth a look. It is certainly not politically correct, but neither was the Sopranos.
