TPS (Temporary Protected Status) PLEASE READ!!!!

Hi i'm a 24 yrs old from Honduras i entered U.S. illegally as a baby in 1987 and have never left the country since. In 1999 i was granted T.P.S. (Temporary Protected Status) and also in 2000 but after that i was denied when i tried to obtain a work permit (i think for failure to show up to biometrics) well the fact is i showed up to biometrics but wasn't allowed into the building because i had no I.D. with me (i was a minor and my mother never bothered getting me an I.D. on the years where TPS was granted to me) and ever since every time i apply it ends up in a denial. I hold receipt notices where it shows that i applied for TPS in 1999,2000,2001,2002,2003,2005,2008,2010 but i know i skipped certain years where i did not apply (2004 due to gall bladder surgery,2006 baby brother passed away, 2007 had no money to apply.) i was recently denied for not submitting proof that i signed up for TPS in 1999 (proof which i now have as in Notice of Action from USCIS dated July 14th 1999) i hired an immigration attorney and he is going to file a motion to reopen this week but he told me my chances of succeeding with the Motion To Reopen are 50% at best if not less due to not applying for TPS every single year since i skipped the re-registration process 2-3 years… is this true? what are my options if my MTR is denied? I have a clean record, no criminal history, and have never been arrested in my life is there any hope for me to reopen my case and get my life back on track? he told me i have one shot at this with the motion to reopen and if it is denied that i have no hope left. ;(

I'm not sure many of us have experience with failure to register for TPS. Hopefully someone who does comes along. I believe your lawyer is probably the best source of information on this issue, as he apparently has experience with this.

We have a friend who has received TPS for well over 10 years now. He always makes the comments that he would NEVER miss a year of applying, for he would be ineligible after that. I think your attorney is being nice when he says even a 50% chance. I have a STRONG feeling you will have to Consular Process like a lot of people on this website.

That's awful, you don't even know the place you were born in! You are American. What the heck? This is bad... but good luck!

This board is about immigration, so by definition half the people would fall in to that category.

Some people immigrate to the US as adults. They have an idea how to function in their birth country, they likely even have the necessary documents to do so (national identity card, drivers license, they speak the language sufficiently to blend in) when they return. It's not the same for those brought to the US at a young age. Some of them face challenges to re-incorporate themselves into a country they don't remember. This does not describe everyone who immigrates to the US. Some immigrants, especially adult immigrants, retain a lot of their national identity upon immigrating. Meanwhile some have come to think of themselves as only American because there's no reason to identify with a country they've never seen (and no, seeing it as a 2 year-old is not memorable enough to last into adulthood). This is why defining what counts as American is not just a matter of what appears on one's birth certificate or passport.

Coventrated, I'm self-admittedly one of the dimmest people I know, and I am not trying to be rude or condescending, but I don't understand your reason for saying this. Like LG said, there are so many people in the US who were brought to the US as children and have never returned to their home country. Their country of origin is as foreign to them as it would be to me or you if we went for a visit.

I hope the OP returns again with an update because it sounds like a difficult situation. Not everyone has "simple" immigration cases. I feel that while lending empathy does not solve immigration problems, it doesn't always hurt to lend it either.
