wow that was super fast! mine closed today (I think - see below) hoping for an early February appointment but wouldn't mind a January Appt.

this is the email that i recieved today: All documentation necessary to complete the National Visa Center's processing of your case has been received. As soon as an interview date has been scheduled, the applicant, petitioner and attorney (if applicable) will be notified.

I'm in the process of getting an IR-2 visa for my Guatemalan stepson. Am utterly impatient waiting to hear about the interview date! Here's what I have dug up in case anyone else is in a similar spot.

My case closed at NVC on 12/12/11. I called the NVC on 12/14/11 and spoke with a woman who told me that they were scheduling January appointments now and that they would be finished scheduling appointments between the 16th and 20th. So that means I could hear any day now about my appointment or may have to wait another month. She seemed optimisitic that I might find out as early as this week. I love caling the NVC and I love emailing the embassy in Guatemala. The response time and thoroughnoess at both places has been excellent.

There was an incredibly interesting post at visajourneys.com about tracking your NVC packet 3 on its way to an Embassy -- which actually worked for me. I'm guessing as soon as my packet arrives at them embassy, they'll actually schedule the appointment.

www.DHL.com > Express Services (box on right) > Tracking (link on left) > select Track by Shipper's Reference

Shipper's reference: EXP 12 DEC 2011A (I believe you can just enter your date closed instead of 12 DEC 2011)
Date range for shipment From and To (when you think the package left/arrived)
    Leave account
    Pick Embassy country from dropdown.

    That's it for now.
Thanks everyone for sharing the wisdom of the ages. It's awesome to see this vibrant community. The boat I'm in feels less rickety.

Just an update for anyone desperately waiting to hear about their interview appointment after case complete at NVC. My case closed (IR-2, Guatemala) on 12/12. When I called NVC last night (12/15), the operator told me they had reached capacity for the January appointments in Guatemala so I wouldn't be scheduled until January for a February apointment. It's a relief to have info -- to know I will need to wait for a few more weeks - I was compulsively calling like every 2 hours. Needless to say, patience is not one of my natural inclinations.
