    Documents for NVC Pre Interview

Hey guys. my husband and I are curious... Will we need to send a police certificate to the NVC before his interview date will be set? If not, how soon should he plan on returning prior to the interview in order to get his papers? Also, will he need a medical exam prior to the interview?

It seems like it used to be a 50/50 chance that NVC would request police certs before they would close your case. But more recently it seems like everyone has needed them. Someone from another forum (El Salvador perhaps) mentioned something about writing a letter to the NVC stating that they would bring the police certs to the interview so they didn't have to send them in and I think that worked. My husband had all kinds of trouble with getting the police certs. Actually, it wasn't so much the police certs..it was getting his cedula in order to get the police certs! It took over 2 months to get the cedula..it was ridiculous! I know other members have had success with having family members in Guate get the police certs for them..so you could try that too!
Yes, he will definetly need a medical exam before the interview. I believe that you get the results the next day so you only need to go down a few days ahead of time for the medical. When my husband had his, the initial appt. was rescheduled due to the swine flu so then he got his results the same day when he actually had the appt. At the medical they will do a chest xray, some lab work, and give immunizations.

    Good luck!

My fiance and I are actually about to go to Guatemala for his appointment, so we've been getting everything ready. As far as the police certificates, they just told us that we needed to bring them to the appointment; they didn't ask for them beforehand at all. It might be because my fiance has no record though. As far as getting those documents, I faxed a copy of my fiance's cedula to his father and his father was able to go and pick up his policiacos, but then a different woman working there wouldn't give him the penales because she said that copy of the cedula wasn't clear enough. I'm not completely sure what happened after that, but they told his dad to come back the next day and then eventually they did give him the penales. If you can't get his records through family I would say to go down about a week early. It took his family a few days to get it all, but it might go faster if it's actually him there in person.
There is a medical exam. They gave us 4 doctors to choose from and then you just call and make the appointment. The nurse that my fiance spoke to recommended that you have the medical exam about a week before the appointment. If you want to start preparing for the exam you should try to find his vaccination record. They ask you to bring it with you, and if he has most of the vaccines then he won't have to get them or pay for them again. My fiance lost his vaccination records so he's going to have to get all the shots again!
    Hope this helps a little!

Like Kaynh said you can try and have someone in his family get them for you. I believe when you are doing it as a married coupled they want the documents before the interview but it is always worth asking if you can turn them in at the interview. Because we did the K-1 fiance route we didn't need these documents prior to the interview. My husbands family was able to get the documents before we got down there and we went back 8 days before the interview to get the medical done. He had his appointment on a Thurday and we were able to get the results on Monday the following week. When you make the doctors appointment for the medical they will ask when your interview is and give you a date according to your interview date.

When we were waiting for the interview we had to turn the documents in before they would set the interview date. I tried calling the NVC and explaining the situation but it was very difficult to get any kind of answer from them because they would elevate it to the supervisor and wait two weeks for a response and we sent in the wrong paper work three times and it took forever to get the date set because of that. If possible try to get the paperwork before he leaves because it takes a couple of weeks before they set the interview date from the time you turn in the paper work and the date could be a couple of months out. The NVC website has all the requirements for Guatemalan nationals and the names and addresses of clinics where your husband can get his physical. Be prepared to get all of the required immunizatons even if you have documentation of previous vaccines. It is way cheaper to get the vaccines there than it is here so it is probably best just to get all of them there. My husband had the appointment set for a couple hours after his plane landed and then got his results a few hours later so that he didn't have to return a different day (they live about 3-4 hours from the capitol). Good luck to you!
