Good luck! It sounds like you have made the right choice. I am a teacher and it can be wonderful, and exciting. We are underpaid and overworked, but passionate about what I do. Obama is proposing a lot of loan forgivness programs for new teacher so if they pass you will benefit from them. It sounds like you will love your job and in the end that is what makes you good at what you do and of course happy!

I’m not going to lie, it has been very challenging to juggle full-time work, graduate studies/classes, 2 kids, husband, house, etc. but it is so fulfilling. My husband commented the other day that I am so much happier since I’ve started back at school. That was all the confirmation I needed to know that I am doing the right thing.

If all goes on track I should be done with classes Dec. 2012, and then gulp…quit my job and student teach. I’m a little freaked by all that but I’m not gonna let that get in the way of what I am doing now. One step at a time, right?!

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the support!

Ojos...I totally feel your 'eeeeek' but it'll all turn out ok. It has to. Doing this without being sure of how it'll turn out is totally like reliving my immigration experience. Not with such detrimental consequences (if can't find a teaching job, there will be a job somewhere in something v. having spouse stuck in another country) BUT more of the everything is uncertain but you know in your heart you have to go for it. Worse always wondering 'what if' than trying. You can't succeed if you don't try, right?! What are you hoping to teach?

couldn't agree more mpls!! my certification will be K-6, and for student teaching i'll be with 5th graders so that should exciting i'd be happy teaching any grade, but think i'd like to do 3rd through 5th grade the most. although those kindergarteners are pretty adorable!
i also wanted to do spanish education at first but having to get an undergrad degree in spanish seemed a little too much for me as well. maybe someday though.

Ojos...if your state has dual immersion the you can probable get a job w/o ans undergrad in Spanish. In Utah we have to take the Actfl Oral Prof. Test and pass the Spanish Praxis if we teach Dual Immersion in Spanish here. It looks like you are from PA and I would be surprised if they did not have programs.

i've always wondered that, thank you! it seemed a little ridiculous to me to have to have an undergrad in Spanish in order to be certified to teach. i will definitely look into it!
