Extremely stressed. i-601 approved but need to get back to US... :(

    Hi there,

If someone could please help me out that'd be so great.

As said in another thread I posted, my i-601 was filed in May 2011, then approved/received in Vermont on June 22nd, 2011. I'm a Canadian citizen orginally and am trying to get back to the US to be with my family. Just trying to find out what I can do to help get my GC issued as soon as possible. Is there a number I can call to help express my extreme stress and need to go back? A family member is very sick and I just want to be with them in case something happens. I've been away from the US since October 2010.

Best of luck to everyone else going through the same thing right now.

Have your spouse contact either your Senator or House Rep for help. She can fax proof of approval and proof of the illness of a family member and they can probably help expedite things. That method may still take a few weeks.. . a Humanitarian admission is also an option if the family member is gravely ill.

As Emt103 mentioned if you are faced with a grim situation, humanitarian parole could be your option. During the course of my waiver saga, I was able to get paroled 4 times based on humanitarian parole. Since you have an approved I-601 notice in hand it could make it easier. The best option is to fax a comprehensive statement, with supporting documentary evidence to the attention of immigration shift supervisor at the Peace Bridge crossing (if closer to Toronto) or Champlain Border crossing (if closer to Montreal). It is also imperative that you provide documentary evidence of your ties to Canada, such as a letter from your employer, current pay stub etc.. This is to show that you will be coming back to Canada once the crisis is over. The best things is to first call the port of entry, provide them with you basic info and request to talk to the shift supervisor. Mention that you are faced with an urgent humanitarian situation and need to travel to the States for a defined period of time. Do not go into a lot of detail as they are pretty busy. Let them know that you will be faxing them your request. Once you have faxed it over call them back to confirm. Also mention that your waiver has been approved and that you are waiting for the immigrant visa process to be completed. Make sure you do get through the supervisor. This is exactly what I did and was able to travel to the US while going through the I-601 process. If you have any specific questions please feel free to contact me further. The links to port of entries are provided below. Best of luck!
