I'm new to the site so I was not to sure where to put this so I set it here too.

I'm sure everyone has been asked this a million times but I really need some help. I am a Canadian citizen and I want to marry my American finance. First things first, I am going down in march to get married, do I have to have anything special (visas or anything else foolish?) just to get married? Second, so now were married, can I stay in the country with her or is it as bad as Canada where they would kick my wife out every six months. So if I can stay, then when I apply for my green card how long can I expect it will take before I can actually work, do I get a temp one when I apply? I guess those are the three big ones, can I marry her, can I stay and when can I work.

I thank you soooo much for the help. I'm stuck, I'm scared and I'm stressed. Told a 100 different things from 100 different people. And is there a specific age necessary to do this. 21?

Thank you everyone!

Have your American fiance apply for the K1 visa. Once approved you can LEGALLY move to the USA and get work authorization. As long as you do not have a criminal background or have overstayed in the USA or been deported from theUSA it is a simple process. You will have far fewer headaches if you get the K1 visa. Your other option is to get married, and wait in Canada for an approved K3 and/or CR-1 visa. I married a Canadian citizen and was in Canada with him for the immigration process.

He could go the K3 route, but K1 will get him to the US faster as long as there are no previous immigration issues or criminal history, no?
