Selective service registration is for males only. I am assuming you are a female, so it does not apply to you. Only males between the age of 18 and 26 needs to register, it is in case they ever bring the draft back.
How did you enter this country in the first place if you are not a citizen? On your parents passport? Then I guess you will need to bring that. Which countries did you go to in 2003 and 2005? As a non-citizen, you would have had to show something at the border when you came back, even if it was just your green card.

oh ok so selective service registration for males only. ummm when i came here i came illegaly. then i got my green card in 2002. went to mexico in 2003 and 2005 only showed green card at border so would i bring my green card only to interview??

You will have to bring your green card to the interview regardless. If they approve you for ctizenship, they keep it when they give you your naturalization certificate, since US citizens don't need green cards. You then use your new certificate as proof of citizenship when you apply for a US passport. You should go and get a US passport as soon as possible after you become a citizen.
I'm not a lawyer, so don't take anything I say as legal advice. I did have my citizenship interview 2 weeks ago though, so I have been through the process recently. My situation is different from yours since I came here legally as an adult, and have all my old passports and visas. Since you say you came illegally, and you got your green card at 14 in 2002, you obviously was brought here as a minor. I'm not holding that against you in any way, I'm just trying to understand the situation so I don't give you any bad advice.
I don't want to speculate on what you need to bring to the interview beside what they list in your interview notice. I think your best bet is to spend a few dollars on consulting a qualified immigration lawyer to review your case and get recommendations on what to bring to the interview, and if you have any potential red flags. You are so close to being done, you don't want to make any mistakes this late in the game.
I have not used her myself, but many members on this site highly recommends Laurel Scott. She is in Texas, but immigration law is federal, so she can still help you. She charges $150 for a 1/2 hour phone consult, and you can find her contact info here: http://www.visacentral.net/contact.html
Good luck, and let us know how it all turns out!

One more thing, I see you filed an I-130 for your husband, so that tells me he is not a citizen, either. If he is living in the US and is between 18 and 25 (before his 26th birthday), he needs to register for Selective Service, regardless of what his legal status is now. Otherwise it will be an issue for him if he files for citizenship down the road. He can register online here: http://www.sss.gov/
Again, good luck!

Glad to help. I read your thread in the I-601 section last night, so I guess your husband is here without legal status now? In that case, he probably does not have a real Social security number yet, right? He still needs to register before his 26th birtday as long as he is residing in the US, but he should leave the Social Security Number blank on the registration form for now. Don't use a fake ssn. He may have to print the form out and mail it, I'm not sure if the online registration will be accepted with the ssn field blank. Keep a copy of the form and send it registered mail if you have to mail it in, that way you have a record of when Selective Service received it - just in case.
Once he is registered, he will get a confirmation letter in the mail. The letter will have his Selective Service registration number and date of registration on it. This letter is his proof of registration, so make sure you hold on to it. Later on, when your I-601 hopefully is approved and he gets his green card and ssn, you write to Selective Service and have them update his Selective service record with his new ssn. It is does not matter if you update his record a few years from now, the important thing is that he can produce proof that he registered before his 26th birthday once he gets to the point of sending in a N-400 for himself a few years from now.

I took a new set of pictures the week before the interview and brought them with me, just in case the two I sent with the application were misplaced. Sh** happens, and I didn't want to take any chances. I also brought tax returns for the last 5 years to prove I don't have any outstanding taxes, marriage certificate, my mortgage statement, selective service registration letter, both current and expired passports (been here for 24 years), my green card, W2, every single piece of paper I have ever received from immigration over the years, and everything else remotely relevant. I had a briefcase full of stuff and didn't need any of it - except for the green card and passports. But you never know what they may ask for.
For you to be prepared for your interview now, the most important thing is to study the questions in the text book they gave you. You need to be able to answer all 96, because they will pick 10 at random. They may also ask you to name the governor and 2 senators from your state, so make sure you know who they are. The Governator is easy to remember.......

oh ok so ill take new pics just in case . i found an old passport that my mom had put away for me so i guess i should bring it even though i never used it huh?? and about the questions ive known them for years because i would help my dad study for his interview back in the day but i will go through them several times just to refresh the memory :) lol i member the governor  and the senators (diane finestein and barbara boxer).

I would bring the old passport just in case. But wait a minute, your father is a naturalized citizen already? What about your mother? If you were under 18 and not married when your father naturalized, you may be a citizen already. But I'm not an expert, you need to speak to a lawyer.
At any rate you will do fine either way, but I definately want to hear the outcome of this now.......:)

Yeah, i'm not sure if both parents need to be naturalized or not, there is something on the USCIS website about it here (http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=ee14b4ac0933e010VgnVCM1000000ecd190aRCR D&vgnextchannel=2411c9ee2f82b010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1 RCRD) (Item 24). It is not quite clear to me from reading that, either. But if you did become a citizen automatically, they will figure that out at your interview anyway. Or you can ask at Laurel Scott's weekly chat on her website - it's free.
My name is Axel, and I came here from Norway in 1984 after college, on a fiancee visa. Nice to meet you. It's Liz, right?

Yes, there are a lot of helpful people on this site. I came across it last year when I was looking for information for a friend of mine who had some immigration problems, and I just stuck around after that. My friends situation did not have a happy ending, but thats story will have to wait for another day......
It's getting late here on the east coast, so Buenos Noches!
