Combine cake mix, eggs and water; whisk until well blended. Spoon batter into pan. Bake 35-40 minutes or until cooked. Remove pan and cool completely. Jump on I2US and catch up with who was approved today -- yea!
Using a serrated knife, gently scrape the crown from the top of the cake to expose interior of cake and poke some holes in the cake with a fork or toothpick or something. Eat (or toss) the discarded trimmings--yum. :)
Combine evaporated milk, sour cream, condensed milk and vanilla and whisk together. Slowly pour the milk mixture evenly over the cake. More in the middle than the edges because that's where it will end up anyway. Let it stand until it soaks into the cake. I usually put it in the fridge for a little while.
Spread the whipped topping over the cake and sprinkle lightly with cinnamon. Top with almonds and whatever fruit you choose.
Chill and ENJOY!

Hmmm... this sounds more tasty than the one I make! I don't use sour cream, I use heavy whipping cream as my 3rd milk - I bake the white cake normal as per the boxes directions and poke holes in it - then blend the 3 milks and pour it on - then I cut up fresh strawberries and spread them on top - and top it off with whipped cream & shaved chocolate! I will use this one next time to see how the family likes it! I never thought of cinnamon but that of course would be awesome!

no, you EAT the top layer as you cut it off! (i do that with cakes anyway before i frost them cause i can't smell them fresh from the oven without eating some).:shy:

It's super easy if you use a serrated knife. Just hold the knife perpendicular to the cake and move it back and forth. The top layer (the browish part) will peel right off (I eat it too...shhh). It helps the "leche" part get absorbed in the cake.

Mmmm...shaved chocolate sounds good!

I make this cake all the time. It's my go-to cake when we have to take a dessert somewhere.

Oh, I'll have to try making this sometime! Just have to make sure that there'll be someone else to eat it beside me! Otherwise hubby will eat like one piece and the rest just sits there tempting me!

What about layering it to put fruit down the middle. We celebrated my babies 2nd birthday in Mexico last July and got a tres leches cake. It was nice and big. It was layered with fresh strawberries in the middle and all around the sides. I love strawberries. I never liked the tres leches cake until I had it with strawberries. Now I will eat it with about any thing. Hahaha

My hubby and the kids love them to. I will have to try this out.

Thanks

I have no idea how they layer it. I've had it from the bakery like that too, but this cake just stays in the pan. Maybe they cut the layers before they add the leche. Actually, that makes perfect sense. But don't bother - you can just leave it in the pan. lol

Yummy! I have been intimidated in making this cake for some reason. Perhaps, I will develop the ovaries to make this cake.

Very popular cakes with Hispanics. They are delicious but I'm lazy so I'd buy one.
