I have a Naturalization question from a friend.
She has been an LPR for at least 10 yrs (not sure how long) and her GC expires May 2008. She just sent her N-400 application 2 weeks ago, and has a few questions:
1. Will she receive a NOA ffrom USCIS that they have received her application (like we do with I-130/129 forms)?
2. She realizes that it will take awhile for her application to be processed and she wants to know what will happen between the expiration of her GC (May 08) to the approval of her application? Will she become "out of status" during this period? does she have to 'apply' for a temporary GC? can she leave the US during that time?

Thanks in advance.

the card itself expires but her status does not. Make sure she doesn't leave the country though.
There is a link about this somewhere else and I can find it if you need me too.

I'm sure they send NOA's too.

That is correct. She will get a NOA when the application is received. A month or so after that, she should get a notice for the fingerprint appointment, then not much will happen until she gets called for her interview.

Would that be too much trouble? :shy:

Thanks Mary!
