Definitely same ole bill -- not good for families or immigrants from poor/working class backgrounds. It's not really good for anyone, as it doesn't expand legal immigration in a constructive way that would address the undocumented/border crossing population either... blah blah blah
Very sad. Let's hope for a more positive political climate in the next few years and a president who will be able to garner widespread bi-partisan support for a humane solution.

It is very bad for families of US Citizens. Today the bill cleared a test vote and so will continue to be discussed. We are hopefull the bill will be amended to help families.

I'm hopefull but I just can't understand how can they make it more difficult for USC , it doesn't make sense, I think they will make much bigger mess, and nothing will get done, the immigration system still will be broken, more broken families, more pain- just not fair. God help us, please give them wisdom, they need it a lot!!!:(

Personally, think they should fix their existing problems like family separation and they're long processing times! What about family unification! The CIR bill that they are proposing is not such good news, I agree I don't think it stands a chance of being passed.

Samantha, my unprofessional opinion is that it will greatly depend on who is elected President, and also what kind of Congress we have in 2008. The Democrats are all generally in favor of a legalization program for people currently in the U.S. illegally, but there are varying degrees to which they all consider it a priority. I highly recommend everyone check out the candidates' issue pages and read what they have to say about immigration (and other issues that are important to you, of course).
I'm personally a fan of Bill Richardson, but he's a major long-shot candidate. I really like Barack Obama as well.
Bill Richardson for President (http://www.richardsonforpresident.com/issues/)
Hillary Clinton for President (http://www.hillaryclinton.com/issues/)
Barack Obama for President (http://origin.barackobama.com/issues/)
John Edwards for President (http://johnedwards.com/about/issues/)
Neither Edwards nor Clinton list immigration as one of their top issues, which bothers me. I'm not a one-issue voter, but I'd rather see a candidate like Richardson (who I think will be extremely popular and able to build consensus between Rs and Ds as he has in his home state of New Mexico) and Obama (who I think has my favorite issue page) who clearly see it as a priority in addition to having "the whole package" win.

I think because of the defeat that the current government will attempt to enforce the current laws in place. They will increase border patrol and raids on US companies employing undocumented workers. They will instill more fear into the EWI's. I don't see a solution coming until the next president is in place. As long as people can get work of some kind and live better than they can in their home country they will do whatever they can to stay here. If the government gets tougher on people employing illegals it will cause a hugh burdon on our economy to support or deport them. I agree we need to control our borders better but also lets find a solution that won't destroy the lives of the people that are here now.
What would you do if you lived in a country that you had no chance to do anything but survive and all you had to do is make your way somehow to another country wouldn't you do whatever you could?
