Hello,

My husband had his interview on January 22, 08 in Guatemala. We arrived at at 7:30 a.m. because his interview was at 9:00 a.m. We asked the guard and he told us to make a line. Around 8:30 a.m. their was a young male that came out from the Embassy and gave us a number and told us to wait in line and not to lose the number. The paper was a yellow sticky with the date and the American Embassy stamp and a number highlighted on top. We were number 11. I was concern because it was 9:00 and they were not letting us in, but I asked the young guy and he said that at 10:30 they were going to let us in and they were going to call our numbers and to pay attention.
Exactly at 10:30 they let us in, we had to go through security. We had to take our jackets off and turn off our cell phones and the bags had to go through the detector. Once we passed through security we entered inside the Embassy and it was packed. We had to stand up because most of the seats were taken by the people that were adopting Guatemalan babies.
Once they called our number they asked for his passport, pictures, police records, birth certificate etc...
After I was getting everything in order she walked away and came back with a folder and all the paper work that I send to NVC was inside. She was going through everything and the only thing that she asked for was his passport, pictures and the new police records. Once she was done, she asked my husband if he was married before and he said no, later she asked my husband when we got married and 5 minutes later she asked us again when we got married and was he married before? Later she gave us a white paper and told us to come back at 12:25 p.m.
We went to eat and we came back at 12:25 p.m. and their was a male and female immigrant officer calling you by your first and last name for the interview. We were the last ones and the lady was very nice. She asked my husband to raise his right hand and to swear that he was saying the truth and asked my husband who was petitioning him? My husband said that I was and later asked him if he entered through Mexico or with a visa? My husband said through Mexico. Then she asked when he came in and when he left. My husband stated that he came to the United States in 2000 and left in 2007. After my husband said that she told him that he was ineligible, when I heard that I stood up from the chair and told her that from 2000 to 20007 he had political asylum. Then she asked for the documents that stated his political asylum and I told her that we only have his work authorization cards and she said no, but then she asked us to wait for a minute and she came back and asked for the Judge's paper work that stated his political asylum and his voluntarly departure. Thank God that I had that paperwork, so I gave it to her and then she asked for another document that stated his arrival date to Guatemala, because she needed to make sure that my husband left before the date that the judge gave him, which he did.
After all that she asked him if he's been arrested and he said yes. She asked why and my husband said that in 2006 he got arrested for a DUI. Well she told me that he needed to do a medical exam for his DUI and to make an appointment with the doctor. The lady told me that his paperwork was all correct, therefore his Visa is pending and based on the doctors remarks he will receive his Visa. I thank the lady because she was very nice and very helpful and she gave us positive feedback.
The next day we called the doctor and my husband saw the doctor. The doctor asked him a lot of questions.
My husband doesn't drink anymore and told the doctor since he got arrested he stopped drinking. At the end the doctor said that he wrote positive remarks and not to worry, but to think way ahead before driving under the influence.
This Monday my husband is going to the Embassy to turn in the medical exam for his DUI and hopefully we should have good news.
Sorry that its long, but I just want to explain everything so throughly. I hope this helps out others, but overall just make sure that you take all your copies in case if theirs any paper work that's missing.
I'm just happy becuase my husband should be home pretty soon!

Yruth, I am so happy for you. Our first appointment in Guatemala was very similar to yours.

I can wait to read the good news from your husband today.
