Can someone help me estimate when my husband will return to Brazil for his interview based on current processing times. I filed I-130 back in May and lets assume that I get all documentation right back when asked for it. Can someone help me come up for a timeline? I'm trying to get a headstart on budgeting for our stay in Brazil while waiting on the waiver decision and make a decision on the house that we own here in the US.
Thanks for any information.

Have you looked at our timeline?
This would be the relevant part for you:
I-130 and I-129f filed 1/06
I-130 and I-129f approved 4/11/06
DIL has to go to Rio for fingerprints before they will schedule her interview May 06
Fingerprints cleared through FBI in Washington June 06
Interview in Rio July 06 denied told to file 601
Had to return to Rio August, September, October for BS and finally allowed to file waiver 11/06
Son and DIL File 601 In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 11/4/06
Approved Lima, Peru 2/15/07
Son and DIL Return JFK US Together 3/11/07
So from the time the 1-130 and the 1-129f were filed until she was home was 14 months.
Because we had so many screw-ups for various reasons along the way she was out of the country for exactly 3 years.
You should not have all of those problems because you have found this site at the beginning of the process, and you did not hire one lousey lawyer at the beginning.
Hope this helps...

I thought it would be longer..I think I130s are taking more time now than yours did. Also, I thought it would take longer to process and decide on the 601..In my head, I was thinking about 1 1/2 year..
Thanks for helping!
Anyone else with an idea?

You are probably right...so hard to compare cases...
Our original interview was based on the approved I-129f as the I-130 took longer to work its way through the system. But it was there and approved at the end and so they were given the CR-1 visa and not the K-3...so the I-129f did speed our process up at least some.

I have pretty much decided not to file 129, since processing times are so similar now. Also, my husband is still here so I'm not in as much of a hurry as I otherwise would be. How can I find out about current 601 processing times in Lima? Someone told me before, but I'm a little new to this so I wonder if there is an actual link to check on..

Totally understand that you are together and that is not your first priority. It was ours as those trips back and forth to Roraima became very expensive and disruptive.
There is no way to check the processing times in Lima.
Many have tried calling Lima and many have had the unfortunate experience of a conversation with the officer in charge. Many have come away from that experience in tears and distraught. I would not recommend calling Lima.
You can look at the spreadsheet of adjudicated cases thru Lima to try and see a timeline. I have never been able to establish any pattern with filers thru Lima.
Probably 6 months is a good guesstimate from the time it reaches Lima to a decision. That is what they were telling people. But in reality it has been anywhere from 3 months to 15 months.

Thanks. 6-8 months is what we were planning and budgeting for, so I really hope it doesn't lean towards the 15 months side!
I know that Laurel will not just improve your hardship letter, but do you think through a consultation that she or anyone else would help me pinpoint which hardships to focus on? We are married with a baby, but really don't have any serious issues with health..

ARodrigues,
Members have posted their hardship letters on this site for critique and proofreading often. You are welcome to do the same and we can try to help strengthen the arguments you do have with some added verbage. ;)

I haven't started on it at all yet. I want to make sure I know which hardships to bring up, rather than having 100 little ones..Once I identify what my hardships are, I can document them. My concern is because I don't think I have any major ones..
