you need to file before the 2nd anniversary of when you got your card. You can file anytime in the 90days before it expires but you HAVE to file BEFORE it expires or you will have to start all over.
I am not sure about traveling while the conditions are being removed.
Here is a link about removing the conditions:

You shouldn't need an interview for the removal of conditions. If they do call you for an interview at this point, it usually means that they have doubts on the validity of the marriage.

You may want to have your husband's command look over http://www.fas.org/irp/doddir/dod/i5500_14.pdf (it talks of submitting requests for you to even gain U.S. citizenship if you accompany your husband overseas)...

The actual DD-1278 form is at http://www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/infomgt/forms/eforms/dd1278.pdf
In the 5500.14 directive, you are interested in "E2.3":
You file the DD-1278 after received from the command to the closest CIS office with an N-400, three identical photographs, an FD-258 fingerprint card (the "Security Manager" at your husband's command will have these and able to fingerprint you), and a G-325...
Too easy...
