How long is the wait once you go to Consulate?

Once I have the appointment letter, how long does it take to get access to the USA if I'm told to go to the consulate in the border on Mexico/USA? Is this a kind of come to pickup your papers, welcome the USA and have access the same day? I have to travel there, I need to know how it works and how long does it really take since I have been told many different things.

What is your appointment for? Spouse petition? Are you the immigrant or your wife?

If you are going to Ciudad Juarez and the immigrant in the relationship has lived illegally in the U.S. previously, you will need to see if you qualify for a waiver. If you are just petitioning someone who has no other ineligibilities, you could get the visa right away.
