We waited for 2.5 (2 hours after our appt was scheduled) finally got called in and the first thing the immigration officer said "Sorry we can't approve you today" my stomach dropped because he didn't really elaborate initially. He proceeded to explain to me that my Birth Certificate issued by a Navy Hospital did not suffice and that there was also a "glitch" in the system and my wife's fingerprints never got processed.
He said he would continue with the interview to get that out of the way and said if everything goes good with the interview we won't have to come back for another one. He then asked for a few original documents (e.g. my wife BC and our marriage certificate). He asked what assets we shared and I showed him our two bank accounts and utility service statement and went to show him more things but he said that was plenty of evidence. He then shuffled through his papers, got on the computer and started putting in a bunch of info. He asked a few misc questions like when my wife entered, if she had i-94 (which we didn't but because she was only 15 at the time of crossing he didn't seem too worried about it). He told us a story about buying a toboggan because he just moved to Denver and continued typing info into the computer. After that he went through a list of questions with my wife (e.g. Have you ever been convicted of a crime?, did you cross the border illegally?, have you ever left and came back to the U.S?, etc. etc. and was checking off a list. He did NOT look at or ask for our pictures, further proof of our joint assets, my taxes/check stubs/updated employment letter, medical exam copy,
After we got through that he basically said "Well I don't have any reason to think your marriage is not legitimate." He then explained in more depth about what was going to happen next. He put together a letter to go have my wife do the biometrics again. He called the navy hospital for me to find out where my birth was registered. He also left to ask his supervisor if he could accept my birth certificate but I guess it's very strict that it has to be from a civil authority (e.g. city, county, state, etc.) and found it it was reported to the county.
The part that leaves me worried, as I'm sure a few of you have read from Hannah, is that he told us that sometimes people's biometrics get hung up in the system for years :/ I really hope it was just a glitch and will go through this time. The good news is we had time after the appt to have my wife do her biometrics again and even make it to fedex kinko's to get a birth certificate request filled out, notarized and overnighted to the county I was born in. That should only take 3 business days. Hopefully we only have a week or 2 and my wife will get her GC issued. I can't wait! Working 70+ hours is a drag haha.
