I'm a photojournalist- what do you want to know?

tips or tricks to use
like cutting a person out of a picture and putting them on a different back ground. Is there an easier way to do it than with the eraser tool?
and do you know where to get good background pics?
the other thing I want to know is where can I find textures that I can load into the program too?
I'm just full of questions tonight :D i'm at work yet again, bored outta my mind

I know how to do it, per se but you can always tell because of the edges. I can never get the edges right.

I saw that pic you recently posted. It really looks like you took it next to him! Wow! How much is photoshop?

I use paint shop pro but it's very similar to photoshop. What I do to have a smooth effect is when you cut something out, use the feathering tool. You probably don't need a big feather.
You can see the technique in my blend tutorial (http://heavenspeace.com/blendtut/) that I made. It IS for paint shop pro but it might give you an idea.

you have to pay to get it although you can get a trial version.
Paint isn't going to cut it if you want to make something really look good.
There is a free program called the GIMP which is supposed to allow you to do a lot of things PSP and PS can do but I don't know how to use it. I'm a psp lover. :)

I bought photoshop elements on ebay, all I got was the disk though and it was $28 plus shipping, so I really lucked out there. I fell in love with the cs3 trial version but I don't have $300 to fork out on a program i don't use on a daily basis.
I did downlaod photoplus and it is alot like photoshop and it's easy and there are tutorials everywhere online to learn from. Especially on live journey.

Yes Gimp is not an easy program at all.

I use photoshop all the time. You can use the lasso tool and selector to pick the area you want to cut and paste and then later go back with the blur tool or sponge tool to smooth out the pixels that don't look right. I can't find my CDs with my work on it...I need to search and find them. Here is some design stuff I did for a company. Its all layers and you can't tell.

VERY SLOWLY, Those took me about 2 days to complete but you zoom and lasso and select. Its easier to take a pic in photoshop...but it on a blank background and start deleting stuff all around it. BUT you need to make sure you have EXCELLENT quality in pictures...as you see, my pictures are not pixelated. I have fujifinepix S5000 but I want a cannon. My aunt has one and its BEAUTIFUL but its also like 8k. That will be my next investment.

oopsy, sorry Rat, for hijacking your thread. I've moved the frames posts to another thread..:D
OHHHH. I can't believe I didn't know these forums were here. I just discovered them.
Anway I LOVE paint shop pro. I teach a basic graphic design course at the college I teach at. I don't have any formal education on graphic design. I've just kind of taught myself and found tutorials online. Here is some stuff that I've done. I lova animation also.

OOOOHHH! I want to join. I just got this HP as a "before x-mas present" from my hubby. Side note: My hubby is really generous with his gifts to me, because he calls me "his little baby". N-e-ways, angela how do you like your HP?
I was considering purchasing photoshop, but was unsure. As of the recent few days I have been convienced. My friend's ex is a pro at it and has created amazing things. Also, Amber and Marie, I the samples that you have posted!!!

Rat, I found a lot of those on free stock photo sites. The ones I have been using are from http://www.sxc.hu/ but now they have a lot of restrictions. You have to see and sometimes ask the photographer if you can use it or simply just credit. You have to look. I downloaded a lot of pictures before they put all that in place so now I don't know what the rules are. Am I supposed to go double check and see what the usage is or since I got them before it doesn't count?
The trick that I have started using is to NOT rename them so I can easily find them again. I have folders "people, landscape, swirlies, texture"
These are some of my favorites that I've done.

ok amber tell me how you did the blue with black and white. That's one of the things I can NOT for the life of me do.
There are 2 or 3 ways to do it. Just depending on the what you want to make color.
1 way you can make two layers. Turn one black and white. That needs to be the top layer. Then with the eraser tool erase the are you want color. You can also use the select tool.
Or you can copy just the area you want color and paste as a new layer. Then change the other layer black and white. Then you will have to move and line up the color part to the black and white.
The blanket one was the first one that I've done. I did it the second way, but I think the 1st way is easier.
Does that make sense?
Check out this web site it has some good tutorials.

it makes perfect sense. here i am trying to color in each little piece and this way sounds so much easier. I'll have to play with it now and see what I come up with. The program is so addicting, I mean while hubby was gone that was all I did, that and this and fanfics. hee hee

That's what I do, duplicate layer, black and white and then cut out the parts I want in color.

I'm also a photoshop/paint shop pro freak. lol
I own three versions of paint shop pro and I own photoshop elements. At some point I would like to get photoshop CS3 or at least photoshop 7.0 but even on ebay you can't find one for less than $100 bucks and sometimes you can't even tell if it is a legal copy you are buying.
I will try to post some of my work later on. I sell on ebay so most of the time I'm doing stuff for my selling but I also do a lot of pictures of my daughter and husband.
I love black and white and sepia. I also love tinted photos.
I have a friend who was madly in love with this guy who didn't really care for her so she asked me to put them together in a picture and it was so much fun to do specially considering that the guy had no interest on her and they were holding hands walking on a beach. lol
