Hi All,

I know this might seem like a very dumb question and I think I know the answer but I need reassurance.

My fiance, who is in Australia, wants to travel to Canada. The problem is that there are stop overs within the United States. He's been barred from the U.S. because of an overstay. My question is would he get in trouble even if he is just switching planes during these stop overs?

He cannot enter the US...even to just change planes...Anytime a plane lands in the US from another country the passengers all must go through immigration. He would be detained.

Go to www.aircanada.com, I looked for Montreal/Sydney and got results going sydney/vancouver/montreal. So, it can be done, you do not have to go through the U.S. Some of the Australia stops you have to call for reservations, but it is possible to fly to Canada without entering the U.S.
