Ok so I'm crusading again, trying to figure out if I can get to Pennsylvania in February to protest.

Long story short Tammy Grimes saved a chained dog, took him to the vets, took him into her home and then was arrested for stolen property. Meanwhile, the dogs welfare wasn't any of the officials concern, it was more important to charge her with a crime. She has been found guilty without proof of evidence on her part and she will be sentenced on february 22, 2008.

I want to go and show my support that I think they should have been concerned about the welfare of the animal first and foremost and on top of that why are the "owners" not being charged?

You can check out the story HERE (http://www.dogsdeservebetter.com/doogie.html)
And her press release HERE (http://www.dogsdeservebetter.com/prdoogiegrimes6.pdf)
Please show your support in one way or another. My coworkers and I are going to write letters to the governor to ask for a pardon.

It is my opinion that she did the right thing in saving the dog. I know I would have. Jail or not I know that I could not have lived with myself knowing that dog was dying and I didn't do anything about it.

So read her story it's very interesting....if you're an animal lover or if you feel strongly about unjust laws.

Anyone know an animal rights attorney?

She absolutely did the right thing. That is heartbreaking and it infuriates me when people chain dogs and mistreat them. If I could make it to PA. I would be there.

I would have done the same thing. I am not a dog owner, but I am a dog lover. I am an animal lover all together and that is just sick what those people did to that dog. If the dog laid there for 3 days and nothing was done I would have taken him or called the animial police.

I would report the abuse to animal control, but I wouldn't just take the dog without telling anybody. Now if she tried reporting it and nothing was being done, maybe it's a little more understandable.......but in most cases, taking the law into one's own hands is not the right thing to do.

Grimes Sentenced
Reported by: Tony DeGol
Friday, Feb 22, 2008 @11:51am EST

HOLLIDAYSBURG, BLAIR COUNTY -- A Blair County animal rights activist is sentenced for stealing a dog she felt was being mistreated.

A judge Friday morning sentenced Tammy Grimes to 300 hours of community service. She was ordered to pay $1,700 in court costs.

A jury convicted Grimes in December on misdemeanor charges of theft and receiving stolen property because she took a dog from a Blair County yard.

Grimes claimed the dog was being abused at the time she took it. But the couple that owned the dog said it was just suffering from age-related health problems. The dog died before the owners could get it returned.

Wow...tough sentence for trying to do the humane thing...Here in Indiana it seems like treatment of animal-type offenses are taken pretty seriously. Unfortunately they need to treat treatment-of children offenses MORE seriously.

they need to treat alot of things more seriously. The problem is that the owners are claiming victim here and the whole point that this was to help the animal has gone out the window.

I do feel that sentences involving children are not treated the way they should be. Too many people walk with just a slap on the wrist. Same goes to spousal abuse and animal cruelty. It's just not right. What amazes me is that if you embezzle or try to take someones money that holds more of a punishment than if you kill someone. Murder? 7 years and you're out. Embezzlement? 25 years plus. Something's just not right.
