Thank God I found this website, as my lawyer seems to only want to collect
large sums of money. I am preparing to send off waiver I 601 to Montreal
quebec. My questionis this; Is anyone dealing with this Consulate? We are waiting for our first interview date and they have had our check list and
k-3 application since october 17th---how much longer for an interview date;
also, my wife and I have been married for 18 years---what possible excuse
can I give for not have applied for her residency (Call me stupid, I just hate
government and before 911 it was so easy to go back and forth from Canada)?

Welcome! One other user had an approval in Canada, member Reynatejana. Here's the link to her posting http://immigrate2us.net/forum/showthread.php?t=49&highlight=canada+montreal
Hope that helps and good luck!

I was approved through Canada and of late Montreal has been quite slow about scheduling appointments. Once your waiver is submitted, it will be sent to VSC (Vermont) for adjudication. I am sorry to tell you that VSC is VERY slow cuttently with waivers. Most are taking close to one year to be approved/denied/more evidence requested.
I never went for residency in Canada and I was there for 7 years, I also travelled back and forth quite often. We were never asked about that at the interview.

You mean you lived continuously in Canada for seven years? how did you
work?
My wife and I are yet to be given our first interview date; our Lawyer
(which I have lost all respect for) or rather his paralegal says there is the
possibility that the waiver could be reviewed and accepted in Montreal.
Is that a bunch of Bull---like everything else they told us? Or is sending
the waiver to Vermont for adjudication standard procedure.
I am thinking of moving to Canada, what is my best option---if you don't
want to post to this page my email is fletchand@bellsouth.net
any information is greatly appreciated! We were led to believe by the lawyer
we signed a contract with that this entire procedure would take 4 to 6
months---but then without informing us he subcontracted our case down to
a lawyer in Bocca Ratton Florida, who despite all my calls and emails is about
as responsive as a dead fish. And I like fish.

No..I did not exactly live the entire time in Canada. I was back and forth to the USA to help care for my relatives. My husband is the Canadian citizen, and he worked and waited in Canada. Montreal started sending all waivers to Vermont in 2005. They have been progressively slower since then with reagards to processing. Attorney Laurel Scott, a frequent poster on this site, has also mentioned how slow Vermont and Montreal has become.
I was able to get an expedite based on severe health and financial reasons. I wrote the expedite request and my senator submitted it with a request to approved the request.
As for me. I could never live in Canada fulltime. I did not enjoy being there. It may also affect the waiver of you apply for Canadian residency. Since I was not a PR of Canada, I was able to show why I could not live there.
My approved letter is in the approved I-601 other countries thread if you would like to read it. I did the process without a lawyer based on the information I recived from this site. Montreal will accept the waiver, but it will go to VSC for adjudiaction.

thank you so much---this is really helping make me decisions---and you
can be sure I will be in contact with my lawyer--also, I put off going
to Canada for christmas, due to other things, anticipating interview date
in Montreal thinking that waiver might be approved there!
I know Canada allows you to stay three months at a time---is there
anyway to stay longer---or did you just go for short visits?

You're allowed six months at a time actually, and if you look on the canada.ca immigration section, they have a program that allows you to apply at the border for temporary resident status, as a citizen of certain countries. I have been told allows you to work for the short term while waiting.
I'm looking for the link I found the other day. I was a little confused on the specifics of it.

I was there for a few months at times, a few weeks other times. I would sometimes just cross over at Buffalo and come back, other times it was at the airport. I was very unobtrusive about things and never had an issue with it. I did extend visitor status a few times was back in 98-99. There was fee for that and it was a big hassle, it may be easier by now

I don't think things have gotten any easier at the borders---my car was searched the last two times I drove--of course the
last time I took all my building tools
thanks for all the information
I'm sure I'll have more questions
