I tried to get an interview with this guy.. didn't happen unfortunately. It's kind of a sad story, but of course inevitable.

It's good that they are checking cops backgrounds' so thoroughly, although it's still a sad story.
Not only did this guys parents bring him to this country illegaly, they also encouraged him to use a dead person's identity. I'm not going to blame it all on the parents because he was older enough to know better when he started using the dead guy's name, but still, they have a lot to do with all the mess he's in now.
Perhaps being distanced from his family's influence for a while during the time he's learning to survive in Mexico will be good for him.
Trying to find the quick fix or easy way out always leads to more problems down the road and this story is a good example of that. The immigration problems we have suck and seem unfair, but the only way to really fix them is to do it the right way. Now that my husband is a legal resident in his own name, I have absolutely nothing to fear. Immigration is never going to come knocking on our door. There aren't any dirty little secrets in the closet.........it was sure hard, but the peace of mind we know have was more than worth it.

I'm not sure if it was in that national news story, but he apparently did not know he wasn't a citizen until he was 15, when he told his dad his aspiration to become a police officer. That is how everything got rolling.
The funny thing is, he passed all the background checks. He was not detected until someone left an anonymous tip that was using another name.
I'm sure he'll make something good of his life in Mexico as well.
