They kept hubby's passport at the embassy. Is that normal?

When I had my interview (for K-3 visa) at the embassy here in Manila, they kept my passport and told me that they will keep it til I submit the waiver. I claimed it from them the day I submitted the waiver because I might be travelling out of the country. My passport was with them for almost 6 months!

No, in CDJ passport was not kept in our case. the visa was added and the 1-94 was stapled inside. Others that had to return for their visa the next day had to leave their passports and pick them up with visa the next day.

When my husband submitted his 601 waiver they took his passport, but then called him the next day to pick it up. they said it was an accident that they kept it.

"bump"
Mt attorney told me they would keep my husbands passport and when he goes in to the second interview they will give him his passport back with a visa inside (something like that). Nothing to worry about

In Rio, Brazil, they gave us the option of leaving the passport there until Lima, Chile, approved the waiver and then they would send us the passport with the visa inside.

We did not want to leave the passport with them as we were planning travel out of the country during the adjudication wait. So we did not leave the passport there.

Different consulates do different things. If you are uncomfortable with leaving your passport there then just tell them that. You can return when they have the approval and get your visa stamped at that time. This may delay your return to the US by a few days or weeks/and may force you to return to the consulate. I have seen it done all different ways at different consulates around the world.

In Mexico you must return to get the visa stamp placed in the passport after approval.
