Hope this topic will attract much concerns and replies. The question is, can my friend who is an EWI and has a degree from india, convert his degree to american credentials to get a bachelors from usa. He is based in
Ny and is there any opportunity for an EWI to continue his education in this country?

Definitely hes not going back to get GED and then to the college since hes got a degree from another country. If someone could throw some light onto this matter, would appreciate.

The colleges, unuversities and the procedures etc. will help a lot.

Do the universities or colleges report an EWI?

hopefully some ideas and advices will help this guy to advance his life even though he's an EWI.

thanks

Hi Billy, In Order To Apply To The University You Need To Have A Valid Social Security Number As Far As I Know, Some Continuing Education School Do Not Ask For But Regardless Your Friend Having A Certified His Carer In Usa Been Ewi, It Seems Hard To Me.

It depends on the state. I live in Kansas and work at a private school. As for residency, we don't have any requirements. The public schools in Kansas allow undocumented to attend if they attended a Kansas high school for at least 3 years and graduated.

On the other hand, Missouri does not allow undocumented students to attend public university. I think a lot of private schools will, but then the catch is that they probably won't be able to pay the tution. They are not allowed any federal financial aid.

So my advice would be just to do your research on the state laws.

http://www1.cuny.edu/about/citizenship/info4undocumented.html

This is information on undocumented students for CUNY. I think he has to sign some sort of out-of-status affadavit.
I think financing his education will be more difficult than enrolling.

Good luck with finding more info.

Thank you all especially Nycwife. I talked to my friend who is EWI about it and he's going to talk to a counselor to see if he can continue his education to get an MBA even it it meant paying the tuition fees.

Hopefully CUNY wont report him or the counsellors..

Thanks..

The best option would be to get your degree evaluated by a reputable U.S. service, e.g FACS (http://www.facsusa.com) or another member of the NACES (http://www.naces.org)

They will issue an opinion on whether the degree is equivalent to a U.S. bachelors degree and may be able to convert the degree class to a U.S. GPA.

As of the last few months there are so many states that have changed the rules for their colleges regarding undocumented persons.
