View Full Version : marriage license question
The marriage license that I have has duplicate stamped on the top of it. Is this ok for the i-130 applicaiton? I have a marriage certificate and a marriage license. Should I make copies of both? Do I need to get a copy of the license that doesn't say duplicate on the top?
Thanks

You may want to send in a copy of the certified document or both if you are not sure. It's better more information than not enough.

You should only need to submit the Marriage Certificate. The marriage license is really irrelevant to the process - and the only thing that is a requirement to submit is the actualy certificate that is received after the wedding takes place.
Hope that helps.

I concur with Luckyspritem, you only need to submit a copy of the marriage certificate that you received after the marriage took place and was registered.

I looked at my file last night and I only submitted the marriage license too. It was a certified copy that I got from the county that I live in. Hope that answers your question!

You can just send a photocopy of your original marriage cert. with your I-130. But be forwarned, you will have to get another Original certified marriage cert. from your local courthouse to send with the DS-230---which is later on in the process. Just want you to be prepared!

I have a registered Mexican marriage certificate. I also have one with an apostile that I sent in to aid the process for my step-son's US passport that I should be getting back in a month. Will this be adequate for the DS-230? Will translations be necessary too?
