If this is in the wrong section please let me know.

So hubby and I were talking and we want to apply for my sister in law and niece to come up for a week or maybe 2 weeks so we can take my niece to Disney World. How hard do you think it is to get a tourist visa for a 21 year old and her daughter? She's a nurse in Mexico so she would have proof of employment and that she can be depended upon to return. Is there a trick to getting a tourist visa? We haven't tried yet, but we will also apply for my mother in law and brother in law. My mother in law has proof of land ownership and family ties and my brother in law is physically disabled. I know they take things like that into consideration. What else do we need to be able to get a visa for them?

The biggest thing is to show proof that you WILL return to Mexico. Reasons you would return: family, children, employment, health, land ownership, etc. I would think they would have a harder time because of their young age, but then again if she is a nurse that may help.

My SIL's parents got their VISA's about 3 yrs ago. They were lucky, they have a lot of land ownership, children and family in Mexico, etc. I also think sometimes it's a "crap" shoot. Depends on the Officer. At least it is not an expensive VISA, so I would gather everything and try.

Good luck.

well she would definitely be returning home to her hubby and job and house. She's getting married in December, he's a forensic pathologist. awesome job! So everything come January will be put in both of their names and who knows he might come with them. I dunno. But she will definitely return to her job she's been there for quite a while. All of her family, minus my hubby, is in Mexico. I guess we'll try it and see what happens. I hope they can come.

My MIL and SIL are here now on tourist visas. I guess they got lucky. My MIL has visited family here before and has had a visa in the past and returned to MX after every trip. Also, she is 65 years old and has almost all of her 12 children in Mexico AND there are 24 grandchildren there. My SIL is a scholarship student in a Master's degree program, so I guess they believed that she would not just walk away from her studies. The key is proving you have good reason to return. My BIL also has a tourist visa good for ten years, but he is an engineer at Televisa, so I guess having a good job helps too.

They did not mention that they were visiting their EWI son/brother, I think that would have meant automatic denial.

Salsa2, just curius - does that mean they lied on the form asking about family living in the US?

Ratito, it's worth a try but it can really go either way. My niece-to-be was just denied yesterday even though her family has a lot of money and she's a student so she clearly has ties to Mexico and needs to return. You just never know how it will go!

I think they just "failed to mention" hubby and listed all the other legal family they have here. So, yes, I guess that is lying.

We're gonna go for it and hope that they can come. Hubby is going down in December for Christmas and then we're going to try to bring them back in the spring/summer.

Be sure to plan accordingly -- right now the wait for an appointment in DF is about a month and if the visa is approved, another month before it can be issued and picked up.
