Dozens to be Deported After Massive Immigration Fraud
El Diario-La Prensa, Posted: Nov 15, 2007
NEW JERSEY -- Losing thousands of dollars in a fraudulent scheme to make them citizens, hundreds of immigrants now face deportation proceedings, reports Spanish-language El Diario-La Prensa. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) sent letters notifying many of the victims to appear in court. However, many never received the letters, they say. The letters were sent to the Florida addresses provided by middlemen in the scheme, pastors from Salvation Army churches in Bound Brook and Plainfield, N.J., and Oration Mountain church in Bound Brook. An investigative report by El Diario-La Prensa last April found that hundreds of undocumented immigrants fell victim to the three pastors, who delivered their congregations to supposed attorney Oscar Alberto Ruiz and his partner, Denice Gallo, both Florida residents. Teresa Blanco, 30, a mother of two, and her husband paid $3,550 to submit a citizenship petition through Oration Mountain church. Now, she says, her family is on the run from immigration authorities.
