Okay, so in Mexico, my MIL and SIL would cut the end off of a cucumber and rub the two pieces together for a minute until white juice came out.
Does anyone know the reason for this?
I do it now, out of habit, and yesterday my mom and I were wondering about it. Does it get the bitterness out? Anybody?

My SIL rubs the end she cut off on the cucumber and I asked my husband about it and I believe he told me that was the reason.

How funny! My fiance and his family do that too! I've also seen them do it with similarly shaped vegetables, like zucchini or eggplant. I don't know any other explanations, but cucumbers don't taste bitter to me...maybe i have weird taste buds!! :bounce:
