Hi. Wow, it feels so wierd to be back on here... the mixture of emotions is truly overwhelming. I think I will have to post something else under general discussions... just to say "hi."

Anyway, I have a question. I have a new roommate who came to this country on a work visa. The companies he originally worked for screwed him over a bit: they didn't pay him, they fired him and withdrew his application, etc. I don't really know the full story, but according to him he has been out of status now for about a month or so...

Just before he moved here, he got a new job and they are processing his visa. He was just informed that he would have to go to Sydney, Australia to get the stamp, but needless to say he is quite worried about how it will go.

He is also getting some conflicting information... his job wants him to go to New Delhi (he is originally from India), but the letter from immigration said Sydney (that is where he was living when he got the first visa).

I know this is kind of vague, but I really know nothing about work visas at all. Hence, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how difficult this would end up being (what are his chances of having his visa denied?) and if going to Sydney really is the best thing and any other information that you can think of.

THANKS!!!!

I don't know enough about this to give you any advice. In my signature is a link to our lawyer. She has tons of information on her site and I believe she addresses this albeit briefly. So that may be a start for your research. Good luck.

I think he has to go to get the stamp in Australia. I had a co-worker who was originally from Indonesia and she was living/study in Australia and had to go back there to get her visa stamped again... He should really call Australia to find out where he needs to go.

Thank you!!!

Does anyone have any idea how hard it would be to get a new work visa, given that the previous one is no longer effective and the person was out of status for a month or two?
