:wink:Hello everyone! i have found this website by an accident, and i think u guys r wonderful! so helpful to so many people!!! i just hope u can give me so advice. Here is my dilemma, my parents brought me to states when i was 11 and they applied for an asylum which we recieved and were waiting for our greencards. all went well and we recieved our greencards but u see when i was about 16 i got in a bit of trouble with shoplifting. i was just trying to fit in with the wrong group of friends but anyways i didnt get my fingerprints taken or anything the cop just wrote me a court date and i showed up it kept getting postponed and then they just made me pay a fee and i was done. My quastion is now i am thinking of applying for citizenship and i dunno how will this effect my application since i heard u can get deported if u have a crime thats y some people dont apply for citizrnship. well u see i want my citizenship because my bf is in another country and i wanna live with him for a while but dont want to loose my status! wut should i do? how serious is my crime?? will i get deported if i apply for citizenship? i'm going to look up my record and see what it says. I have been in states for about 10 years now. i hope i can work this out! i'm so nervous all the time! i cant stop thinking about it.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP!

How long has it been since the shoplifting? Something similar happen to my sister she was caught shoplifting in 2004 she is a permante resident and she applied for her citizenship in the begin of 2007 in mid 2007 she received the appointment to take the citizenship test she pass that same day and she was asked if she had committed any crimes she was honest with them and told the officer about the incident in 2004 and he told her even though she had pass the test. She had to wait for a response in the mail about there decision …….about three months passed and she received a letter stating her citizenship was not approved and that her record had to be clean for 5 years from the last incidents and then she could reapply in 2009………but to lose your permante residents over a mister meaner there is no way you just have make sure your record is clean for 5 years if your don’t want to lose all the application fees filed like she did and has to reapply in paid fee’s again

Hi Confused - I think the fact that you were a minor when it happens makes a big difference as well. I'm not certain they will take into account something that was relatively minor and that happened before you were 18. To be certain, you might want to consult with an attorney who is experienced in such matters.

A word of caution- just because your criminal record doesn't list your shoplifting conviction you should still always declare it when you're asked if you've ever been convicted of a crime. The conviction should still show up on your FBI record and the last thing you want to do is look like you're being dishonest! It was probably expunged or sealed when you turned 18 and it's *likely* not going to affect your application.

As for your boyfriend- Pepsi could transfer him to the U.S. if he can work that out and they could sponsor him. It's tough finding a company that will sponsor you. It depends on what his qualifications are and what companies are looking for..
