Wow, I honestly don't know what to say. Do you think he'll get anything out of it?

omg he probably will. I mean the man just lost his manhood for being in the country illegally......

Well he was transferred from State Prison, so he apparently was convicted of a crime other than EWI. I work in a correctional facility and you would not believe how easy it is for an inmate to fall through the cracks. State facilities and their prisoners are not that different, I suppose.

It is a shame he didn't recieve good medical care regardless. I am sure that he wasn't released because ICE didn't want to pay for a biobsy (in and of themselves, they are not that costly)---but a round of chemo or radiation....that is a different monster.

It's not just the loss of his *** He now has metastatic cancer, he could die because of this.

It started with the original detention center though, he needs to be taking action against both. He was in jail and had no way of seeking his own medical care which makes it their responsibility AND it seems there is documentation of his requests.

I definitely think he will get something out of this, but nothing that will give him back his health.

wow ..that sucks ..really sucks ..

they should compensate him now so he can do something meanwhile ..or give the money to his family ..

Why should he be entitled to premium medical care in prison and in a detention center when many AMERICANS ARE NOT AWARDED THAT LUXURY.

If he remained in his native country- would they have paid for his biopsy? Would he be better off than he is now. I doubt it.

This isn't a case of a hardworking (and other than illegal immigrant status) law abiding citizen. For all anyone knows he could have been a rapist...and his loss a penis is a blessing to us all.

They did not say what his crime was, however, all people in jail, here in the U.S. are afforded basic medical care, and witholding care is a crime.

He was only in jail for ten months, so I highly doubt he committed a violent crime--though I could be wrong.

It is not up to the prisons to withhold medical care and that is the issue here.

He WAS examined by physicians who did not deem the procedure necessary.
He was not denied medical attention but rather additional testing which is up to the attending doctors digression.

I think any doctor can see that any kind of growth usually requires a biopsy, unless they are supid. Any dog at a shelter would have had this done, why not a human being!

Part of the reason so many people unsympathetic to illegals is precisely because of this sense of entitlement.

No, not all growths require biopsy's. I know because I have neurofibromas (growths) and they do not require removal despite the fact the fact that in very rare cases they can become cancerous. The same thing can be said about moles.

Obviously, the attending physician did not feel that the growth had the characteristics that suggested it was a cancerous growth.

If I had no health insurance and I went to the hospital complaining of a headache, do you think they would just order an MRI for me? Sure, it could be that I have a tumor or it could just be a plain ol headache. More than likely, I get two aspirin and get told to limit my caffeine.

The biopsy was recommended by a physician and declined by the prison doctor.

If you go to the emergency room with a severe headache, you will get a CT scan, not an MRI.

Headaches--with other symptoms--can be strokes, and they do get checked, unless they involve sensitivity to light and other migraine traits, which as you mentioned gets the recommendation of limiting caffeine.

In America, we ARE 'entitled' to medical care. It is against the law to withhold medical care from ANY human being be they immigrant, citizen or 'illegal' or criminal. AND it is against the law for the doctor in an emergency room to even ask about your health insurance. You are entitled to the same care in an emergency room whether or not you have health insurance, and so was this man.

Obviously he had cancer, and obviously they made a mistake in not treating it.

Again, he wasn't denied medical attention but an elective procedure. American's who have health insurance have been denied elective or alternative procedures because their insurance wouldn't pay for it. Rent the movie Sicko and you'll be shocked at the lack of care that INSURED Americans receive.

Depending on the type of headache you describe MRI's or CT scans may be warranted but not until other tests are given such as blood work , blood pressure etc. My point was and is, they wouldn't order it until deemed necessary.

Doctors may not ask not be legally able to ask you about insurance coverage but in this case, it is plainly obvious there was none.

At the end of the day, it's unreasonable to expect no cost health care in the US there is currently no socialized health care system in place.

Prisoners are covered under a group insurance policy as soon as they are arrested. The bill is to be handled by the state/county/city under whom they are incarcerated.

The entire point is a biopsy is not an elective procedure. It was medically necessary to everyone except a prison physician who was obviously proven wrong.

This man is a human being, he deserved medical care. Whatever crime he committed was not punishable by a death sentence seeing as they released him in 10 months.

BTW: A movie made by a man who thinks that the Canadian medical system is the best in medical care (currently wait times of more than two months for a CT scan/MRI/ultrasound or to see a specialist.) I'm not impressed. That movie, while holding a lot of true facts, was sensationalized. Do some research into the Canadian and British systems and then you may have changed your mind.

I don't mean any of this disrespectfully in any way, but I have experienced both, and have worked in the U.S. system. The Canadian system is more horribly understaffed than the U.S. system, and though the U.S. will charge you for it, they are legally bound to give you care. In the Canadian system you have to wait sometimes months, and if you are a visitor you will still be charged, just like in the U.S.

I am by no means a raving Micheal Moore fan but that doesn't change the fact that people that carried insurance were denied treatments not covered by their plan. It shouldn't then come as a shock that someone who doesn't have insurance at all wouldn't qualify for treatments or procedures considered elective.

Even if this guy gets anything (and I doubt he will), any money will be absorbed by his now climbing medical bill. Just because you don't have insurance, it doesn't mean that they don't charge you.

At the end of the day, when it comes to medical care...
you get what you pay for.

Okay The Man is DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When released he had to have his penis removed and radiation and chemo and the whole bit but he still died. He never had a chance because they denied him a chance to live by denying him the biopsy. DO YOU GET IT THE MAN DIED AND OUR PRISON SYSTEM KILLED HIM. I hope his family gets rich off of the setelment from them.

Don't yell at her now, this post is several months old. He wasn't dead yet when she posted it. I always felt that she didn't quite realize the severity of the situation.

I agree that they should become rich, because of this horrible action by our immigration system, but the poster was simply stating her opinion.

We do not agree with it, but it's her right.
