If you are waiting for your interview in CDJ, than am I safe to assume that the USCIS sent your case to the National Visa Center and you are waiting for an interview in CDJ or have you not sent anything to the National Visa Center? If you have then go to this post, I had asked for the phone number to call for the National Visa Center.

If not, than what was the last paperwork that you sent to either the USCIS or the National Visa Center?

If you are waiting for your interview, you would not see any updates on the USCIS case status as the consulate is a separate entity. Your appointment scheduling is handled through the NVC - you can call them or email them.http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1309.html
I don't know what you mean by an advisor - I sure hope you dont' mean a notario. I would be concerned that someone has your passport -- YOU should have it in YOUR hand as you will need it for your medical exam and interview in CDJ.

:) Hi there i actually do have my passport at my husbands house in the states!! But what i mean by an advisor is that she fills everything out for me and mails everything where it has to go! Shes not an attoney though! I've been trying to get info on the uscis website since last year but they never update it! But like u mentioned they dont handle the information on the interviews at CDJ so maybe they did receive all the paperwork since the NVC asked me to send a copy of the passport. I just hope everythings going ok. And also i was wondering if anyone else has been asked to mail the passport before the interview? Is it new or they've always asked for your passport before the interview??

Its something new. My lawyer wasn't aware of it until he got the notice on sending the passport. Had to send the copy of that and then the original of his birth certificate with translation and our marriage certificate. Then we had to send two pics later. Has anyone else had to send pics to the NVC?

Since the person helping you is NOT a lawyer, I would strongly, strongly suggest that either you or your husband stay very very involved. Check on your case directly with the NVC and be sure you both read the information on the CDJ website about the interview and waivers - it's very important that you are well informed and don't put yourselves in the hands of someone who is not qualified to handle your paperwork - way too many people have been burned badly that way (even with lawyers). Good luck.

The only time we have had to send copies of the passport was for the AOS packet.

Did he tell you what date your case was completed??? I know that they've scheduled interviews for cases completed in May 07.

This is NOT something new. They have been asking for the copy of the passport for immigrant visas since at least the beginning of 2006. Also it is stated in the packet that NVC sends you. I would follow KK's advice an follow the process VERY closely with you "advisor". Apparently they don't have a lot of experience in this or they don't pay a lot of attention if they were not aware of the need for the copy of the passport.
Good Luck! CDJ is running about 7 months for scheduling appointments since NVC finishes with them.

Well i think it was completed on September 07 because he said that they've received everything by then. So im guessing i still have a few month to wait for the interview???

There is a lot of talk on this thread about 'sending one's passport' to NVC -- can someone please tell me that all we need to send is in fact A COPY of the passport?!? We are not at this stage yet - but I really don't want to send his physical passport off as it is what we intend to use as an ID when we fly to El Paso.

Hi luckysprite! Well i do think that all you really need to sent is the passport copies because you will need it for your interview and once you are approved they wil stamp it with your visa on it!

NEVER NEVER NEVER send your physical passport anywhere. There are only a handful of situations where you would ever want to let your passport out of your hands (i.e. check in at a hotel in a foreign country). I would be shocked if the NVC required anything more than a COPY!

All it is is a copy of the Biometric page of the passport. That is what we sent a couple months ago.
