So out of pure curiosity...how did you all meet your significant other?
Here I will start...I was in college and my minor was Spanish. I could learn how to read and write it, but not really conversate in it. While in college I was also working at a local restaurant. I spoke with the cooks in the back to practice my Spanish. I started hanging out with the cooks and eventually fell in love with my husband. We have now been together for about eight years (married for three). Needless to say now I am fluent :)

I met my husband at a restaurant too. I was in between music industry careers in Nashville when I took a job serving at a restaurant downtown. We talked in the kitchen and I asked him to hang out with some of us after work one night. He stood me up! He said he got lost, but I think he was just too shy. Then a couple of days later, one of the other cooks opened a door on his hand and the managers asked me to take him to the hospital. It has been nothin' but lovin' ever since then!

At a Mexican restaurant where my friend was the Kareoke (I know I spelled it wrong) host. He was there to sing. Him, his brother and cousin invited my friend and I over for drinks. We staied at thier house talking and stuff until 8am and then we left cause they had to work at 10am. We started to talk on the phone and meet up every friday after that. Then it was every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and finally everyday! We started dating about a month later. My friend also married his cousin about 2 years ago. I didn't even know my husbands name until 3 weeks after we met. LOL :)

Good idea for a thread! I met Hector working in a restaurant, he was a cook and I was a server. It was meant to be, I didn't want to take the job, and either did he, but we both reluctantly started the job within a week of eachother... I liked him from the moment I saw him, he was the only guy in the kitchen that didn't hit on me, and that intrigued me. One day after weeks of catching him looking at me with those huge eyes under the bill of his hat, I was punching in an order and he came up behind me and scared the CRAP out of me! I was beginning to think that he was mute after two weeks of stares! He asked me if I spoke spanish, duh?! I had been talking to everyone else in spanish in his earshot, I think it was an icebreaker... and then he asked me to go dancing... I told him that I would love to go to the lake or the park or uptown or something, but I didn't want to ruin any chance with him after he saw me wiggle around on a dance floor... We were married soon after, and here we are now! Fun fun topic!

My husband and I met our junior year of High School.
We had U.S history together. We started out just being friends.
One day he asked me out to dinner and after that we were just inseparable.
We hung out together all summer and before it was over we were a couple. We moved in together shortly before high school graduation. We got married about a year after graduation. We were both 19. This month will be 5 years that we have been together, and August will be 3 years since we have been married

Well, I started working at a restaurant in college. My husband was on vacation when I started, but when he came back he got the scoop on 'the new girl'. One of his buddies told him that I was beautiful , so my arrogant, little husband said, "She's gonna be my girlfriend." I don't know how he planned on making that happen, since he never even talked to me. He completely ignored me, as if I didn't exist. I knew he was interested though because I'd catch him watching me out of the corner of his eye...I was watching him out of the corner of my eye too, but I decided to play hard to get! I waited for him to initiate a conversation for what seemed like forever. Well, the conversation turned out to be about a plate of fried shrimp, to my disappointment. Then, out of no where, he asked me if I'd like to go dancing. Ha. I can't dance at all, so I knew I'd make a fool of myself. I guess he didn't mind...because we became inseparable after that first date. He was my first boyfriend:love:

I met my husband at a dance. A friend of mine had taken me there. Of course my husband and I dispute the facts of our meeting so I will give the correct story (mine of course).
Every time I passed by my husband he would clear his throat real exaggerated and it made me so angry. So, I went up to him and told him that if he wanted to dance he needed to ask me. So, he asked me to dance and I told him that I was thirsty. So, he went and bought me a bottled water (contrary to the lush stories, lol). Then we danced the rest of the night. I gave him my number and he would call me and always sing me the same John Michael Montgomery song. Well, at least the words he knew. I thought he was a weirdo so I kept acting like my sister when he would call and say that I wasn't there. After about 3 weeks he quit calling. About 2 months later a friend of mine and I rented a house together. One night we were bored and sitting around. So, we were getting ready to go out and there his number was in the bottom of my make-up bag. Well, I called him and he came over and watched a movie and let's just say that he never left from that day on!!!!
Now his story is that I kept walking in front of him to get his attention. He said I kept batting my eyelashes and he couldn't help but see it because my eyes stood out. (what a crock) Whatever makes him happy!!!! LOL
This is a really neat topic.

Lol! Too cute!
My husband was working on a dairy farm with my brother-in-law. They were friends, and my BIL always said we should go out, cause I'd been checking out the "hot Mexican" for a long time! Ha!
They first time my sister tried to set us up I stood him up because I was toooooo shy... Then about a year later she brought him over for family dinner. I was away at school, but always came home on weekends.
We were both so so shy. On our second date we went to a BAD heavy metal concert. Well it was the perfect opportunity to have a few beers and relax a little! :innocent::p
After that I didn't come home to see family, I came home to see him!
Famous quote: "Mom, it's not like I'm going to marry him!" Ooooops!

Hi Everyone,
Well, I met my husband the day I moved into some new apartments, he lived downstairs below me with his Aunt! In fact as I was moving in, he was coming down the stairs, Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, looking so cute and sexy in his workout clothes, he helped me carry some plants upstairs and some clothes, and after that we started talking. I would invite him upstairs to watch TV with me and then after 3 wks we finally went out to eat dinner, he was so funny talking about guacamole, and how it can affect a person sexually, I almost swallowed/choked on my taco I was eating! Oh boy, he was so quite the whole time and then unloaded that statement on me.
After this we went to sit by the swimming pool; it was a cool spring evening with the moon shining and we sat there with our feet in the water and he finally leaned over and kissed me! He told me he had been waiting almost a month to do that! Before that he had acted so shy.......boy did I have him pegged wrong! Ha,Ha!
It is now almost 3 yrs later, this was in 2003, and we got married on New Year's Eve of 2004 and we moved in together in August of 2003, into different apts,,,,,,,,it has been heaven since then; except for now, he has been gone to Monterrey Mexico since Sept 24, 06, 9 1/2 months and waiting, I miss him so much and his beautiful smile, my Papi Chulo-Sammy!:o
I love this topic!:D

I worked at a grocery store with a friend of his. His friend had a crush on my friend so he invited my friend to a birthday party and she wouldn't go without me so off we went. Well my hubby was there, but he was talking to some girls so I just hung out and drank A LOT :party2: So the other girls left and he and I started talking. I asked him where his girlfriend went and he said he didn't have a girlfriend. I said what about the girls that were here. He said nope, they're just the neighbors. So he and I drank and talked and danced to the same song for 4 hours  4 months later I moved in. Then 10 months later we got married and we've been together ever since. Amazing enough that I went to a party during my men bashing days and met the love of my life. Fate played a big role in that. :innocent:

Oh I love this topic!!! I'm at work right now (ooopps) and I know that everyone that's walking by my office is wondering what's going on with me because I'm sitting here giggling.... LOL!!!
Well, my story (which this is all too funny because Luis and I found a way to keep those "butterflies" by talking about this very same thing at least once a week....)
I used to be a Manager at a local Entertainment Store (music, books, videos). Luis worked, washing dishes, at one of the local Mexican Restaurants. I was the only one that could speak spanish at the store, so any time a hispanic person came in the store, my staff was automatically paging me. Well, this particular night, it was about 20mins to closing and this group came in. I happened to know the girl that was with them, because she was the manager of the restaurant. When they were ready to check out, the girl that was working that register, I made her go do something else because I just HAD to check him out!!! I still get goose bumps and butterflies remembering that first look.... I of course spoke in spanish, then he replies by asking me if I spoke spanish..... (He blushed of course afterwards...hehehe) I knew at that moment where he worked, so the mission was on!!! LOL! A friend of mine and I went a couple days later to eat and our waiter (which was actually a white guy) was talking to him. I asked the waiter what my hubby's name was and then of course he figured out real quick that I had my eye set on him. So, before we left I wrote my name and phone number on a napkin and asked Ricky (the waiter) to give it to Luis. He said ok and walked to the back. Waiting for him to come back out and give me the "low-down", he came back dragging Luis behind him. He said, "Now, if you want him to have it, you give it to him.." then winked and stepped back. Needless to say I did..... He called the very next day! Well, we talked and flirted for about a week then one day me and another friend who worked w/ me went there on our lunch break. He paid for our meal and when we were fixing to leave he ask me to wait out back. He came to my car to tell me by and he kissed my hand. Then he asked me if he could kiss me..... It literally made my toes curl!!! LOL!!! From that moment we were actually on again off again for about 3 months because I was soooooo scared. I'd already been married before and I just didn't want to be hurt again. When Luis had his car wreck it changed everything. I realized what a kind soul he really was...... I had known from the 1st time I saw him that he was the man that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, but he was (is) very cholo, so I expected him to be a "player". Almost a year later (03/11/06) we were married. We've been through so much bad, but we've grown from our mistakes, learned from them, risen above them and now we're strong as steele. I don't know what I'd do without him. He's absolutely my everything and I thank God that I have him in my life....

That's funny Ellie!
Well, I had just moved to California...It was the middle of my Junior year in Highschool. My mom had told me if I wanted gas money I needed to find a job. So I applied at this little Mexican restuarant named El Pollo. About a month later, I started working. The cashier was introducing me to all the other employees. I met my husband and his cousins, who also worked there. I said to the girl showing me around, that guy is hot. She said which one..I said, that one. She said oh. I was thinking he is tooo good looking for me...heheh..well...over the next couple of months he kept flirting and blowing me kisses. One night after work I was leaving and he was waiting with his cousins. I walked over, I wanted a cigarette. and he said for a kiss. and I said um, no..and his cousin was like yes, kiss him..so I kissed him...and that was that...We have been kissing ever since. We have been together for over 8 years and married for over 4. And neither of us smoke anymore...
I thank God that we met!

I meet my husband through my brother-in-law. I needed a new roof on my house. So my brother inlaw brought his cousin (Antonio)to help him. And for some reason I would stand under the tree, and just look at him (WHY! who knows). Well on day he slip down the roof a little and I yell to him
" ANTONIO TE VAS A DAR IN LA MADRE "
I scared him. I paid him for the 3 days he worked on the roof. Then one day I
ask my brother inlaw for his phone number. So I called him and I told him it was me Celia and if he would like to go have coffee or dinner with me. He told me NO! So when I hanged up the phone I cried and told my mother
" Even that old man didn't want to go out with me" whaaaaaaaaaa!
A few months passed and I needed a date to a family party, so once again I
called Antonio and asked him out. This time he said "YES". We been together
since December 2003. I told Antonio since he lives under the roof, I want my money back. The job should have been free. YEP! My husband is old (59- I'm 51) he's sick, fat and darker than hell..But he my husband.......and l love himmmmmmmmm. I finally realized why GOD put him in my life. He is the gentle side of me and I am his Firecracker.

I absolutely love these stories too! My husband and I had been working together for about 9 months and never really even spoke to each other. (I was in an on again off again horrible relationship with someone who liked to up and move across the country on me, expect me to wait around - and then come back when he realized what I meant to him...blah blah blah...) Anyways, the 3rd time my ex did that - I realized I didnt want to cling on to him anymore. My self esteem was pretty much shot due to this guy though - and I never thought my husband would give me a second glance. He was younger than I was, super good looking - and was really 'friendly' with another girl at the company. (they were just friends, much to my surprise)
One day - I was asked to switch departments for a few days - and ended up working right next to him. We were both pretty shy but started talking and really had a good time. After a few days - We were spending breaks together, staying late to help each other out...a laughing a whole lot. It felt good to be so carefree and fun again. The next week - the company was offering free tickets to a haunted house nearby - and when the VP came up to me and asked me how many tickets I wanted - without thinking - I turned to my husband and said 'do you wanna go?' - he said yes - I was soo embarassed...but that was how our first date got arranged. We never went to the haunted house as the weather was horrible outside - but dinner and a movie instead. We made out for a few hours in the car afterwards right in the movie theater parking lot. That was a Thursday -and he said he would call me over the weekend sometime. Never did, never did...I was getting bummed out - until there was a knock at my door. He had his friends bring him over that Sunday - to apologize for not calling -but his wallet had been stolen and my number was in there. I looked like a wreck and was super embarrassed - but was overjoyed that he didnt forget about me. We have been together since.
He has told me that if I never made the first move - he probably never would have - being more shy than I was. It surprised him that I asked - and offered to drive 35 minutes away just to pick him up for our date (I knew he didnt have a DL). He was a gentleman - and paid for the rest of our first date. He said it showed him that I had a genuine interest in him if I was willing to drive that night. Funny - the things that matter to a guy....still amazes me.

a friend of mine was working with me at a sewing factory. her husband is mexican, and i had been friends with him for 10 years. a lot of his friends were always there in the afternoons when i would bring her home. most days i would stay for a while. her husband asked me one day, you like my friend eloy? i said, why, does he like me? he said, he's single, but he doesn't speak english. i told him, gee thanks, ramon, what i really need, someone who doesn't speak english. this was in 2005, and my spanish was not good at all. still isn't very good!!! he was always looking at me with those "mexican" eyes!! one night everyone was partying, don't know about eveyone else, but this group of mexicans were always segregated, men in one spot, women in another. we used to make jokes about it, girls over here, boys over there!! me and her had been drinking an extreme amount, and i said, lets show them how us americans do it, and we walked over and joined the group. he kept staring at me, and my friend was telling me what to say to him in spanish. things progressed, and we ended up at my house that night. i liked him, but was very embarassed. a couple weeks later the same thing happened at a party, and we came to my house again. the next week, another friend of mine saw eloy's brother, and got directions to his friends house. we went to see his friend, and he was telling me how much eloy liked me, and how he talked about me all the time, and he started coming over to my house on the weekends. in the beginning, it was real strange communicating with him. i knew some spanish, and we used the dictionary a whole lot!! also translation websites!! we met in august 2005. he came over every weekend. in dec 2005 i had to have my appendix out, and he was freaked. then in jan. i had to have another operation, same spot, had a gigantic abcess. after that he more or less moved in with me. he still had all his stuff at his moms house, but he was with me every night. he got arrested in april of 2006, and we got married in aug 2006, and started the i130 process. he has to leave 2 weeks from tomorrow, and he is banned for life from coming here legally, at least thats what his lawyer says. sucks bad, but i have my good memories.

Ok, I am new so I hope I'm doing this right. I've been reading on this website for a while and decided to join. What a fun TOPIC! lol.
Me and my b/f met at a local bar. It was my first time going there and me and my friend had barely got there 5 minutes before him and his friend walked in. We were trying to play pool at the pool table right by the entrance ( she knew how to play, I didn't). Well as soon as his friend and him came in, his friend walked over to my friend and started talking, and he was alittle shy but insisted on showing me how to play pool. He kept asking me if I knew spanish and I tried to deny it, but my bigmouth friend told on me! LOL. The next night which was saturday night, we went to the bar again, and my b/f's friend showed up and was talking to my friend. I was to shy and embarrassed to ask for my b/f so I just waited to see if he would show up. Eventually he did show up, said hey to everyone, including me, and then went to sit at a booth with his GIRLFRIEND !!! Well that night when the bar closed, we went to these guys house (he didnt live there but hung out there all time). We started talking and his friends did everything they possibly could to get us together. We hung out all the time from then on and became best friends. He eventually left his g/f since he was with me all the time anyway and she knew it. He was a big flirt with me from the time we met, and I was in love the moment I laid eyes on him.:inlove:

he has multiple entries, and his lawyer says if a person crosses the border and is removed, voluntary, not going through court and deportation, and crosses again, it is a lifetime ban. he is planning on going back. he thinks it will be better to go back and let immigration know he is back, then try to return.:dunno: i told him it is the same either way, if he gets caught again, he's screwed. i can't move there to be with him. i have diabetes and high blood pressure, and take 6 different medicines daily, and need to see a doctor regularly every 3 months. we have a charity hospital here, and its the only doctor i've had my entire life. except when i was pregnant. the wheels move very slowly, state run, what more could i expect?? but i've been in the system a long time, and they help me with my medicines. i think thats a great arguement for a hardship letter, but the lawyer says he's not eligible for a waiver. also, i wouldn't move my son there. he's 4, and has a great life here. isn't that the reason all the mexicans come here, for a better life?? and my husband says he doesnt want us to move there. he says life is so difficult there, we could never make it. he always calls us spoiled and lazy!!! i told him, i work very hard to make a good life for us, sorry you had such a bad upbringing. don't know what will happen overall. only know that i'm so sad now, and it will be like part of me will be missing in two weeks. he keeps telling me, don't be sad, i'm coming back. sure, thats what he says, but i don't think he realizes how much more dangerous and difficult it is know than when he came over in 2003. he's very hard headed, in my experience with mexicans, they all have pretty hard heads!!!!!!!:bang:

Lyn, if he was deported and then re-entered he can still file the waiver, he just has to file the I-212 also!!
Maybe if he has multiple entries he will have to wait for the ten year bar, but that is not forever!
Don't let him leave and come back again, that will be even worse!!! Please read what Laurel Scott says about multiple entries, or start another thread to ask about it. I don't know the exact laws or the exact info you need, but your lawyer sounds wrong.
You should do a consultation with Laurel Scott, she can tell you exactly what the deal is!! Please do it before your hubby leaves and re-enters again!!

My niece owned a Mexican restaurant and when my sister ( her Mom) died I went there 4 nights a week to help her. I had to have surgery so I didn't go for a few weeks and when I went back Cristian was there working as a cook. He would look at me and smile but never really talked to me.. after a few weeks he opened up and we would sit and talk when we weren't busy. I was friends with one of the other cooks and he asked me if I would give them a ride to a dance club..:party2:I told him yes but I was tired ( I had a full time job elsewhere) so they had better be ready as I wasn't waiting on them for hours. When the night came for me to take them my friend told me I had to go to because they needed a ride back..at first I told him no but then caved in. Once we got there they all left me except for Cristian..he stayed right by my side..when a slow song came on he took me by the hand and led me to the dance floor..at the end of the song he leaned in and kissed me..that was it for me!!! :dance:We became friends and eventually lovers then he asked me to marry him and I am so glad I said yes..even with all the immigration crap. I would do it all again..he is worth it.::love::hug:

I was a missionary for the LDS church for two years in California and learned Spanish. I met my wife at church in Idaho. She invited some people over to eat and I went with them. I can't remember what she fed me, but it must have been good, because I kept on going back. We've been married for almost three years now, and it just keeps getting better. We've been lucky enough that I have been able to visit her and our girls every 3-4 weeks.

Cute stories, everyone!
Sorry, I know this is way off topic but for lyn-n-eloy, I just wanted to add that if you are deported there is a ban on re-entering (the 212 waiver is available in this case). However, if he already re-entered illegally after being deported, he is banned from returning to the US for 10 years (no waiver available). Re-entry after deportation is very serious and can be prosecuted as a federal offense, which means your husband could be put in federal prison if he's caught. I just want to make sure that you have as much info as possible before you make any decisions.
You might want to look at this handbook... I just rediscovered it today -- it was super informative for me when my fiance was deported. http://www.lirs.org/InfoRes/PDFs/FlorenceProSe/VolDep-E.pdf
I found this info on page 8.
'If you are removed and you reenter the United States illegally or attempt to reenter illegally, you cannot return at all for 10 years and after those ten years, you can onlyreturn if you first get consent from DHS.'
