My nephew Joey is in the US Army and was injured by a bomb in Afghanistan on Sunday. He's an only child to my cousin Liz. Liz and her husband divorced amicably when Joey was only about seven years old. Liz is the most caring mother and I've always looked to her strength. We communicated often since my husband has been in Mexico and she's always been a source of strength for me. Now, I don't know what to do. It feels so weird that this is happening to our family. We are definitely not a military family. I think there are only three active members in the military of over 100 of us. We are definitely a large family.

Joey is still in Afghanistan because the army doesn't want to move him because he's not stable enough to be transferred. Meanwhile, my cousin is a mess, not knowing what is going to happen to her only child. He's in a medically induced coma and I'm sure the prognosis isn't good.
Please say a prayer tonight along with all your other prayers so that my nephew can recover and come back home with his mom.

I am so sick of this war. Everytime I saw the "local" tragedies of soldiers being sent home in a casket I was so angry. SO SO ANGRY at this stupid, nonstop war! What is wrong with this country that we feel we have to GOVERN the entire planet and impose our lives on others who have lived a certain way for thousands of years and will continue to whether BIG DADDY US is there or not!!?!!! It's ENOUGH already, bring those boys and girls home. They are all just young kids trying to escape poverty and oppression in their own country.

Thanks for reading

OMG!!! I'm so sorry. I agree with you 100% that they need to bring our soldiers home. I hate the fact that the U.S. thinks it rules the world and can tell everybody else what to do. I'll say a special prayer for your nephew tonight...and for all the other brave men and women over there doing their job.

All my best to you, Julissa, and to your family. The US's military surgeons are the best in the world, remember that. Joey will be okay.

And we'll remember this when we vote next time around. Although I will never understand why we got involved in this senseless, stupid, misguided and misrepresented war, I appreciate your nephew's sacrifice. I hope he comes home to you quickly and that your husband is there with you soon to help in this rough time.

Thank you for all your wishes. My cousin Liz is going to be with him in Germany tomorrow. That is the latest update. At least he's stable enough to be transferred to another medical facility away from the war zone.
