We got an appointment letter for November 1st, but I am getting concerned that November 1st might be a holiday. Isn't the day after our Halloween a holiday in Latin America? Wouldn't the embassy be closed?

Is it the day of the dead or is it on November 2nd?

Hey, Paige! :wink:I just spoke with my hubby, and he said that in El Salvador, November 1st is Día de los Muertos. He said some businesses close in observance of this holiday while others do not. I would double check with the Consulate who gave you the appointment date if you have any further doubts. Best wishes to you and your family!

i think they are only closed on federal holidays and i am not sure but I don't think dia de los muertos qualifies...but i would definitely check on that....

I would say though that if you are scheduled for an appointment that day they will be open

Thank folks. I looked up the holiday list for the embassy. It says they are closed November 2, so I guess we are okay. After what we've been through trying to get this appointment date, I guess I'm just a little paranoid.

Isn't that weird, the US embassy should be open because they should be operating on a US govt schedule. It is weird because when I went to the US Embassey in Honduras it was spanish that was spoken as the first language then english (even the guards at the front)! I told my husband this is the US Embassy they should speak english first and then spanish! :) He laughed and said you know what you are right! When people (from Honduras) are given their visas and they come to the US, alot of people are not going to speak spanish! I just think how things are done backwards sometimes!

the us embassys operate on US holiday schedules as well as the holiday schedules of the country they are located in.
