For those of you whose husbands or wives got their passports in the U.S. from the mexican consulate. What kind of ID did you use? My husband came when he was 15 and had no mexican id. He does not have a U.S. id cause of course he can not get one without a ssn. He tried to make an appointment at the mexican consulate in orlando and they told him that without photo id he can not get his passport. He has a photo id that was not issued by government but is id none the less. He was told he can not use this, so how is he suppose to get his passport?

Did he EVER have a passport? even as a small child? I had to get a new passport from my consulate, when I was almost 30, and the only thing I had was my ancient passport from when I was 8 years old. They accepted it, but I because it was so old, I had to re-establish citizenship. I had to provide them with original birth certificates and marriage certificates of my parents AND grandparents. Even with all that it took them 8 months to process. Sorry I couldn't help more...

no he never had anything. he comes from a extrememly small town in mexico, so small that even google can only give the current weather and temp info about it. i have just decided to go to the dmv and apply with our approved I-130 and have them send it to tallahassee since it seems that so many others are getting there id that way. We just need the stinking id, not a driver license. This is just bologna.

Read through the ID rules on their website. Most people first get a consulate matricula card and use that along with their birth certificate to get their passport. It's not really that complicated.

I have a copy of the requirements that the consulate sent to me and for the matricula consular it says they need a state issued id or mexican id as well. There have been several times that we have gone to the mobile unit the consulate has(always arrived to late) but I know for a fact that many of the people there that got their matricular consular and passport didnt have government issued id's and just had id that was issued by a independant compnay. My husband is trying to make an appointment for himself and our son but she won't even let him make the appointment, she asked him specifically if he had a government form of id and he said no. She said to call back when he had it cause otherwise they couldn't help him. I am getting so frustrated

Does he not have a Credencial de Elector from Mexico or Cartilla del Servicio Militar Nacional or Certificado de Estudios? Any one of those along with a birth certificate and proof of address like a letter sent to him at home are good enough for a matricula and the ID requirements are the same for a passport.

Nope he has nothing. He left when we was 15 and hasn't been back since. He didn't finish school cause he had to work to support the family, Heck I don't think he every really went to school. He came over with literally nothing.

I've never tried this before but who knows- it might be worth a shot. The Mexican Consulate is there to help its citizens here in the U.S. so maybe they can help you get a birth certificate from your husband's little town. Does your husband still have family in this town? Maybe they can talk to people there to see if they can get the birth certificate and any other records like school records to prove he's from there.

The fact that they won't give him a matricula consular is very shady. I got mine and used my school ID to verify who I was. Well that and my birth certificate. I know it's a long shot, did he go to any kind of school here in the U.S. and does he still have any old ID from there?

We have his birth certficate but the consulate is absolutely refusing to even give him an interview without a valid government issued id from either mexico or here in the US. Both of which he has none. I have made an appointment at the DMV for today to try and get just a simple id. There have been several here in Florida that have only had the bc and I-797 and were able to get a license. With my husbands DUI he can't get a license but all we need is the id card. Keep your fingers crossed cause this is our last shot. After this I have no idea what to do to get him a passport.

Thank you so much to everyone for your thoughts and info. We went to the DMV today and the lady at the counter tried to give us a hardtime so the supervisor came out and looked at all our paperwork and told her to proceed and send everything to Tallahassee like they are suppose. The supervisor basically reprimanded her for not checking to make sure we had all the documents we needed before assuming we did not. I loved it, it was great. So as long as all goes well with document verification in Tallahassee he will have his id in 30 days and we can finally go to Orlando to get his passport. Yeah one more stress lifted off of my shoulders.
