Hello everyone,

I'm new in this website and was wondering if any of you happen to know anything about either dream act or pilot program.

Mi wife entered illegally to U.S. in April 1996, she was 15 at the time, we got married in July 2002, I became a citizen in May 2005 and now we have a 11 month old baby who has a cleft palate and therefore is under the supervision of a cleft palate doctor, a ENT doctor. Also he has been seeing a urologist and of course, his pediatrician. My baby is scheduled for cleft palate surgery in late october and I was wondering if there is any chance of me being able to sponsor mi wife without her leaving the country for more than 1 or 2 years.

We were told by a lawyer that she would have to go to our country of origin (mexico) for at least 6 months and then apply for a waiver. Recently I was told by a lawyer that there is a new program that could bring her back even in a matter of days after the appointment in ciudad juarez, but it was a free consultation and she didnt tell me the program's name, I decided not to go with that lawyer because she is in california and I am in Illinois. A friend of mine told me of this new program that became in effect in may 2007 and he believes the name to be "pilot", I browsed the net but I couldnt find anything similar to what he described, if anyone knows about this new program, please let me know.

Also, where can I find out about the dream act that is/was suppossed to be look at today?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

Puhnik.

Hi puhtnik -

You are in the right place, sort of... Head over to the I-601 Mexico forum and you will find multitudes of stories of people going through the pilot program for I-601 waivers in CDJ.

I would say, sadly, your chances in CDJ are far better than waiting for the DREAM Act to pass.

If you want an overview of the process, there is a guide linked in my signature where it says "need help?..." Read that through first, then start reading in the I-601 Mexico area. Lots of people in your wife and your situation there. Many have indeed, just been in Mexico for a week or so.

Welcome again!

Laura

I'm not a lawyer... I'm hoping to go to law school in 2008 and eventually become one though. :)

WOW!! u really need to go to law school!! I submitted paperwork with an advisor who used o work for the Elgin immigration office and is no longer there for health reasons, he is very reasonable in prices and I like that he explained everything in detail. Hope he continues like that... Thanks for your advise.. by the way I live in Illinois just 5 minutes away from The Illinois-Wisconsin state line. My husband and I go to Milwaukee very often due to our son's health ( we go to Children's hospital of Milwaukee) if you wouldn't mind maybe we can meet?? our son's next appt. is in Feb '08. Let me know if its ok. Thanks again, and really, you belong in law school.
