In Milwaukee, the September 25, 2007 edition of the
Journel/Sentinel has an interesting article on Milwaukee`s
Public Schools, writing that: Another MPS school mistakenly
requested student information on behalf of "Homeland
Security". Immigration status of all students, from yet
another school in Milwaukee.
Fairview Charter School sent out forms asking Students for
their "country of birth" in addition to other personal inform-
ation, said Roseann St. Aubin, communications director for
MPS.
The Journel/Sentinel reported this month that students at
Elm Creative Arts School in Milwaukee brought home a note that said "Homeland Security" needed their citizenship information, including immigration number and
citizenship status. MPS said the incident was a clerical
mistake.
Without an opology, St. Aubin said that the "Homeland
Security" link was a mystery to the district until Friday. She she "someone" leading the training seminar made an
"off handed" comment that such information might be
needed by Homeland Security.
The information is not needed by schools or the district St.
Aubin said.
