View Full Version : Last Name is Different?
:shy:This is a stupic question. My husband's last name on the ss card and welcome letter is in this order: First name last name middle name. I know in Mexico they write the name like this, but on my ss card is: first name milddle name and his last name. It is different. Should I change the order of names?

In Mexico usually people don't have a "middle" name the way we think of a middle name here. They have two last names. First should be the paternal name, and second the maternal. It should be on his SS card how he writes his name.
The one he uses commonly is probably his paternal name (weird for us in US) so even tho it appears in the middle, it is actually correct.
Example:
My husband is Elias Nuevo Martinez
when people ask his last name he says Nuevo, which is his paternal apellido.
In the US people expect him to be Martinez.
When we have a child, in Mexican tradition it will be Baby Nuevo Biggs (that's my last name).
I hope this helps you! Sorry if it's more confusing
Anyway, I guess if by this definition it's still in the wrong order then yes, you should have it changed.
