Hey everyone,
I am planning my son's 1st b~day party that is coming up in a few weeks, and I need some good ideas what to get him for his 1st b~day.
Here are just a few parameters that I am going to stick with...(consideration: I will want to buy a small toy or 2 under $20 for just 12+ and up just so he has something to enjoy for the time being.
1.)I don't want just a toy that is for his age only, I want something that he can grow into.
2.)I want a toy that he can aquire his gross motor skills(muscles=walking, climbing, etc) to as he learns how to walk,(again, something he can grow into)
Also,if you know the price and place where the item can be bought,PLEASE list it.
Thanks in advance!:D

Between the ages of 1-2 my son's favorite toy was his Little Tykes shopping cart. He would walk behind it and load all of his other toys into and take it everywhere with him. He thought it was the greatest thing ever, and still loves it, but we had to leave it in the US when we came to mexico, otherwise he'd still be carting things around with it.

My son has a plastic wagon that he pulls around, but his favorite 1st birthday gift was this single bubble maker that sticks on the inside of your bathtub. You put bubble bath and water in in and push the button and it plays songs and produces bubbles.. (I think it may be an octopus)

Awww how cute that is~ I bought my son a bubble maker and he got scared of it~of course he was younger then, but maybe I'll pull it out now that he's older.
Good idea though!

My son got this for his 2nd birthday, but he loves it. It's a bubble lawnmower and I think it's my fisher price. It came from Walmart and cost $17 in July. Also, for his 1st bday he got a baby einstein caterpillar that was like a rocking horse. It came from Walmart too and I'm not sure how much it cost. He still plays on it! Another idea is blocks..like the mega blocks. We got them for my son's 2nd Christmas (he was 17 months then). He loves them and kids never outgrow blocks...my 5 year old neice has us get them out every time she comes over! :-) Hope that helps!

Thanks for the ideas...I got to much going on right now~I'm trying to be cautious as to what I buy as I don't want to by on impulsiveness.

This was my sons' 1st b-day gift and it was a great pick!! he loved it and still uses it at times. (We left it at grandma's when he learned to ride a bike at 3!) http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Rock-Roll-Ride-Trike/dp/B00005UOSC It is now my sis's son favorite toy (since he was one) and he is 2 now. We used it indoors (my son is an Oct.b-day too) as a rocker/pushbehind toy untill spring when he was ready to do a little scooting/pushing. He could also walk behind this and push it, but now quite as easily as something like a smaller ride on. http://www.amazon.com/Little-Tikes-Push-Ride-Racer/dp/B00005850H/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1223529282&sr=1-4 This toy my kiddos outgrew faster though.
Mega blocks are also another great option!! Especially with a big dumptruck/wagon type thing he can load them up and push them around in.
Also my daughter LOVED an older version I bought used of a push behind toy. http://www.amazon.com/Little-Tikes-Tracker-Activity-Walker/dp/B000096P3A/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1223529535&sr=1-4 We didn't go anywhere without it for a while because she wanted to walk ALL the TIME but was not quite sure/steady enough to do it without support. She actually used this like a walker all over and could maneuver anywhere she wanted to. It didn't last very long after she was walking on her own though.....I think maybe something like a shopping cart...or one that converts to a little ride on would last longer.http://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-Playskool-Step-Start-Walk/dp/B00004T2WP/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1223529666&sr=1-2
