Welcome to the forum Oaxaca. Neither me or my hubby are from there (he is from Puebla) - but regardless, I just wanted to say hello!!

You should be hearing something on your first appt pretty soon - I know they are already scheduling appts from Feb. 2007. Best wishes!

Welcome Oaxaca. My husband is from Puebla too, but I'm itching to take a trip around Oaxaca. Have you been there?

Actually I have never been there. But I really want to go soon. My husband is dying to go back to Oaxaca. He hasn't been there for about four years now. But he's always bragging about how great the food is in Oaxaca. So when are appointment comes up, we will take the opportunity to visit. I can't wait! Have you been to Puebla?

Yes, I have been several times. It's wonderful. I think the food in Puebla is only rivaled by the food in Oaxaca.. or so I've heard. :)

Hello Oaxaca,
My husband is from the neighboring state of Chiapas.
Boy do I have a huge case study for you on the conditions there for for hsl. These 2 states are 2 of the 3 poorest states in Mexico. It felt like I struck gold when I found that study. It highlights all the inequalities in those 3 states. I used it heavily in my hsl and of course stuff about Mexico too. Here it is. Its very long like 500 pages but its great stuff.

Me encanta Oaxaca !!!

I met my husband there while studying Spanish. We both love the food, architecture, culture, people, weather. It's a very magical place.

My husband can't wait to return; we may go back in December or next summer. My family will join us.

About the hardship letter.... in addition to high levels of poverty, there has been political unrest with the teacher's strike and APPO movement. The tourism industry, which is a source of many jobs, has also been down the past couple years.

Good luck!

Welcome. My husband is your neighboor, though. He is from Veracruz. He has some cousins that live in Oaxaca.

i have never been to oaxaca, nor has my husband (he's from hidalgo), but his godparents have sent us beautiful pictures from their trip to oaxaca last summer. i plan on going as soon as i have the opportunity. and my fifth-grade teacher was obsessed with oaxaca! she was an avid traveler and told stories about a radish carving festival somewhere in oaxaca.
