hi all.

I received my approval letter from Vermont on the 18th(e-mail notification on the 12th). Then today received my packet from Montreal with papers that caused me to want to hide my head under a THICK pillow.

I THOUGHT I didn't have to go back to Montreal again after the 601 was approved? I thought that changed years ago and that now we just had to mail in expired papers (RCMP, medical, support etc.). along with our passports and they mailed the visa back to us.

Well, guess I thought wrong. This packet contains a checklist exactly like the original one we all submitted with our K-1 applications wayyyyyyyy back when. They want birth certificate, previous marriage and divorce papers, court and prison records...DS-230 part 1. DS-156, evidence of support, etc. etc. They have most of the above (previous marriage, divorce, birth certificate) with my original K-1 application. I understand about the RCMP one, and evidence of support, and a new medical, but did they make a mistake with this and send me one they send new applicants? And THEN after I send the checklist back, they say I have to wait for an appointment which is currently about 4-6 MONTHS and will pay $131.00 U.S.????? I'm STILL looking at another 6 months possibly? Please tell me this isn't so.

No, since it's been approved, and it's been more than two years, you do have to fill out a new DS form, but if they already have the documents you need to confirm with them they have them.

You will also need new police certificates and medical clearance and will probably have to pay a new visa fee--the price is $380 now, I think.

It SHOULD NOT take another six months, in fact, should take less than a month and you should not have to go to another interview. . .they do not require a second interview.

Please know that you will have to stay on top of Montreal. . .they are horrible about moving paperwork.

After they get the paperwork, they will request the passport be sent to them and they will send it back to you with the visa. Since it has been so long (mine was more than a year) I would send a new Xpresspost mailer. . .this way you can track it too. Once they get the paperwork it takes a MINIMUM of two weeks for them to even touch it and three for them to be able to update you via email.

I kept my Congressman on them closely.

July 2006 when I submitted the 601 at the interview. Vermont was in receipt as of August 31, 2006. Last May they sent me a request for further information and it turned out to be asking me why I didn't tell them about a bunch charges like concealed weapon, leaving the scene of an accident , etc......I passed out when I got it.....they had the wrong person. Well, with all the papers from RCMP and letters, they must have believed me, and it took another 14 months, but, my 601 was just approved No apologies or explanation, just "approved" finally. But it probably would have been approved a lot sooner without that mistake. I'll send an e-mail to Montreal tomorrow asking them the same thing I did here, they've actually been very good with me answering e-mails and sending Vermont e-mails asking them what was taking so long. When I send the documents that they need, do you suggest I just send my passport along with it...maybe speed it up some? thank you for responding :-)

I'm not sure in this situation about sending it all at once. You could ask them in the email. They usually take things piecemeal, but in a case with a screwup of that scale, they might have a heart and let you send it all at once.

I'm sorry things went so wrong! I hope they fix it quickly.

I can't believe they get away with being so incompetent.
